Nonprofit Staten Island Annual Cultural Spotlight:
Nonprofit Staten Island hosted an educational opportunity at the Staten Island Museum, on Thursday January 26, 2023. It was a magical night of networking with colleagues, and an opportunity to see the Yes, And exhibit at the Staten Island Museum!
This opportunity touched on themes of connectivity, resilience, and vitality, reflecting this time in history when a global pandemic continues to teach the fundamental importance of relationships and the meaning of place.
The event also showcased the work happening within the Contemporary Council. We replicated the last council event for those who were unable to catch it. A huge shout out to MakerPark Radio and The Coupe for making the night so awesome.
Admission was free. In place of admission Nonprofit Staten Island collected nonperishable food donations to support La Colmena, a local nonprofit working on addressing food insecurity on the island. The donation will specifically aide their work with the asylum seekers who they have been serving.
|
|
At the beginning of the year Nonprofit Staten Island ushered in a new generation of community building, collaboration and coalition with rebranding its logo, to ensure that all communities that make up Staten Island feel included.
This is why Nonprofit Staten Island members joined forces this past Thursday at the Staten Island Museum Annual Cultural Spotlight Event by bringing can foods to support La Colmena's Food Pantry which covers the Port Richmond and Stapleton neighborhoods.
Together we are creating an unified voice.

Demographics via Candid: Join the Movement
February 14, 2023
2 PM - 3 PM
Comprehensive and public data on demographics is foundational to our sector’s work on racial equity. But the need for it results in many requests for this information, in different ways, from various funders. The result is a huge burden on nonprofits to collect and provide this data, taking valuable time away from their crucial mission-driven work.
Demographics via Candid empowers nonprofits to share vital information about their work one time (Data1x) on their Candid profile where it can be deployed as needed to funders, philanthropy-serving organizations, researchers, and other stakeholders across the field. Join to:
- Find out what data is available and the questions we can (and can’t) answer with this data.
- Hear how leaders in the field are using demographic data and the challenges we face to make sense of it all without a standardized format.
- Learn how you can join the movement and get a baseline report on your grantees’ and members’ demographic data.

The William T. Grant Foundation announced the 2023 Youth Service Improvement Grants (YSIG) application is now open! The $25,000 awards will support activities to improve the quality of direct services for young people ages 5 to 25 in the five boroughs of New York City. The goal is unique in that its focus is on strengthening existing services by helping youth-serving nonprofit organizations address challenges or remedy problems at the point of service, where staff and youth interact.
The 2023 YSIG Application Guide provides an overview of the program, eligibility information, selection criteria, and samples of funded grants. In addition to providing grant support, the Foundation will secure technical assistance to assist grantees in successfully implementing their improvement plans.
The 2023 YSIG program will prioritize applications from organizations that:
- Provide direct services to youth in eleven community districts identified as having the highest risk to child well-being by the Citizens’ Committee for Children,
-
have existing programming tailored specifically to Mexican-descent or LGBTQ youth, or
- are led by people of color or members of the LGBTQ community.
Applications are due by March 8, 2023 at 3:00pm, for award decisions in September 2023.
