Lourdes Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope your family has gotten into a steady school routine after about a month of school.

A couple of reminders.  First, if you haven’t  reviewed and completed the behavior program review Google form, please do so this week.  Second, if you haven’t gone into Powerschool and updated any information, please do so this week.

This week I would like to highlight the Light Up Lourdes fundraising event.  Hopefully this will prompt some questions for our new families and serve as a reminder for our existing families.  In case you didn’t know our school is funded with 4 main revenue sources.  They are:

  • Parish subsidies
  • Tuition
  • Wisconsin Parental Choice Program
  • Third Source Funding.

Light up Lourdes is our largest fundraiser and it assists us in reaching our Third Source Funding goal of $77,000.  Any amount that we raise that is above stays at the school and is reinvested into the school.  Last year we had a very successful Light Up Lourdes and were able to invest approximately $70,000 into new classroom furniture for our students.

As you can see, a successful Light up Lourdes has a huge financial impact on student achievement.  The more we raise the more we can reinvest into our student body.

That is one reason why a successful Light Up Lourdes is important.  The second reason ( it might even be more important than the finances) is to create the sense of community.  This sense of community is so important for a school to be successful as well as their students.   This evening is about coming together, meeting new people, generating healthy relationships, and most importantly enjoying yourself.

It is one of my favorite evenings and sends goose bumps down my arm when I see over 400 people that gather with one soul mission: helping OLOL school be the best version of itself.

You will hear more about Light Up Lourdes in the upcoming weeks and how you can help out.  Here is what you can do now.

First, save the date of November 15th and secure a baby-sitter for the night.

Second, think about how you can help as two of your TSF hours need to go to this event.   Finally, think about who you can invite as you do need to sell 2 Raffle tickets to the event.

Our middle school students spent yesterday at Camp Tekakwitha  learning about leadership and working together to overcome obstacles.  We hope that they took away some strategies for how they can be successful this year as individuals and as a group.

“God loves us too much to indulge our every whim” - Max Lucado

A message from OLOL School Office:

Parents, please take a few moments to update your child's vaccination records in PowerSchool.

A compliance report for immunizations is due to the De Pere Health Dept by mid October.

Thank You

Did you know that OLOL has a

Site Advisory Committee (SAC)

that meets each month?

The SAC consists of eleven school family parents, one parish member without children in the school, and the principal.

The SAC focuses as an advisory committee for the principal with the two main functions being fundraising and marketing.

The Council typically meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30, and all parents are welcome to attend.

Also, if you aren't already following the OLOL parent FaceBook group yet, join the "OLOL Catholic School De Pere - Parents" FB group. It's a helpful way to stay connected on school happenings and to seek input from other OLOL parents on school events.
