The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Acts 17:16-31


Paul spends time in Athens. He is whisked away from a contentious encounter in Beroea and arrives in Athens, a city that is full of idols and a city where they are interested in nothing but telling or hearing something new. He takes advantage of this to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus and the resurrection. It seems we may be just as hungry for the next new thing as the Athenians. What might this old story of God's good news have to say to us?

God of Resurrection, transform our desire for the new thing to a desire for your Good News. In Jesus' name, Amen.

• We hold in our hearts today all those in our community and beyond who are dealing with challenges to their physical, emotional, and or spiritual health. Bring hope and healing to all in need.
• Thank you for making us different from one another, yet united in your love and redeemed by your salvation.

Hear all our prayers, spoken and unspoken, and gather them into your loving arms, for the sake of our risen savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Would you rather...

Please join us for a special meeting of the congregation THIS Sunday, May 3, 2026 after the 10:30 service (approximately 11:30 AM). All are welcome to attend, only members will be permitted to vote.

The purpose of the meeting is to vote to approve the expenditure of up to $1.25 million in funds already raised by the Making Space campaign to renovate the sanctuary, including upgrading the lighting, sound system, and enhancing the safety and mobility of our church.

Before demolition begins, we would like to honor the space that has served us for so many years. Send us your pictures of life events that took place in our Sanctuary to be used in a slideshow that will run Sunday, May 17. Please send them to pictures@genevalutheran.org by Monday, May 11.

If you’re looking to have yourself or your child baptized at GLC, please plan on attending a baptism information class this Sunday, May 3, immediatley following the 10:30AM service. Contact Michelle Lata for more information.

For the month of May! Weekly Bible Journaling will meet on Thursdays from 11:15-12:15PM in the Chapel, immediately following Bible Study. Bring a journaling bible, notebook, or journal. Craft supplies will be available. You are also welcome to bring any craft supplies you have on hand! Contact Jacquie Schmidt for more information.
