A Note From Our Founder
Death is a fact of life. Whether a parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend or pet it is a time of grief.

This month it is with a heavy heart that I write to you. I just received notice from an attorney that a supporter has passed away. I was not previously aware of her desire for Feeding Pets of the Homeless to receive a portion of her estate. It is an honor she thought enough to remember us during her lifetime and beyond. An honor that we do not take lightly; she will not be forgotten with her legacy. As a tribute, her name will be added to our Wall of Donors and Annual Reports.

Over the years, we have been surprised more than once by this type of bequest. Many of our supporters have told us before their passing that they have left us in their estate planning. It is not legally binding but gives us a sense of security knowing that funds for our future are imminent. Hopefully, not too soon! It is with appreciation that we can acknowledge them before and after their passing. If this looks like something you may be interested in, please contact me at gf@petsofthehomeless.org

Their homelessness was verified and an exam was performed.
Tiny

A woman contacted Feeding Pets of the Homeless about her dog Tiny. Tiny is her four-year-old female spayed Chihuahua.

They had been evacuated in Miami-Dade County due to the flooding of their home. Tiny’s leg was accidentally fractured during the evacuation. The Red Cross referred them to Feeding Pets of the Homeless.

Legacy Spotlight
Mildred Patricia Sharon
3/6/1937-3/29/2017

Patricia named Feeding Pets of the Homeless and three other animal welfare nonprofits in her Trust. With her bequest, we were able to expand our programs, hire more staff and expand our headquarter offices.  She was a supporter from 2014 until her time of death.

Born in Belfast, Ireland on March 6, 1937, as an only child, Mildred Patricia Toolan was a spirited girl from the very beginning. Her independent nature led her to leave her place of birth as a very young adult and venture to the United States of America, which she made her forever home and eventually earned her citizenship. Patricia’s sense of adventure and love of travel took her to all parts of the world, but she always returned to her beloved home in the hills overlooking the Crescenta Valley in northern Los Angeles County.

She married and never had children, but always surrounded herself with pets that were loved and treated like family. Her love of all animals, throughout her life, was obvious as told through her many stories of visiting wildlife sanctuaries at home and abroad, as well as the long list of animal rescue organizations she generously supported.

Thank you so much for your support, Patricia!
