Dear Residents -

This week there were two fires in the Village of Nyack. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. However, thirteen families were displaced due to the extensive property damage. I want to thank the Orangetown Police Department, the Nyack Community Ambulance Corps, the Nyack Fire Department companies and the approximately 17 other volunteer fire departments that responded. Without them, the results could have been far worse.

I also want to thank all of the organizations that stepped up to help these families. Some are collecting clothing, personal hygiene items and gift cards, while others are taking monetary donations. While there are too many to mention here, check out The Nyack Center, The United Way or the Nyack NAACP, if you would like to help these families.

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the NYS Comptroller’s Office will be hosting an Unclaimed Funds Workshop at Town Hall at 11 am. Each day, NYS returns about a million dollars to those who file claims. To see if you are one of them, you can search the website HERE or stop into Town Hall next Wednesday. People are often surprised to learn they are owed money, so be sure to check it out.

While I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, please mark your calendar for August 27, 2025 – for the 3rd Annual Orangetown Night at Clover Stadium. It is everything Orangetown and always a lot of fun.

There are many events taking place in Orangetown this weekend – including the Greek Festival and Rockland Pride Sunday - so be sure to scroll to the end and check out all the great things you can do.

Whatever you decide, have a great weekend.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

New York State Police and other government agency phone numbers are being spoofed to collect your personal sensitive information.

Phone numbers associated with the New York State Police and at least one other New York State agency have been spoofed and are being used to coerce individuals in New York State and nationwide into providing personal information such as social security numbers. Individuals who receive these call have also been threatened with punitive action for failing to provide the requested information.

Scams using spoofed federal, state, and local government phone numbers have been reported throughout the United States and impersonated the New York State Police in previous instances. These calls can cause fear and confusion amongst the recipients and potentially lead them to being victims of fraud or further harassment.  There are currently no guaranteed ways of stopping the spoofing from occurring.

If you receive a phone call from someone posing as a law enforcement officer requesting sensitive personal information from you consider the following protective steps:

  • Refuse to give the scammer any information
  • Do not send any payments
  • Hang up and do not trust that caller ID shows their real identity
  • Record their number and save any voicemails
  • Find the real number and call the law enforcement agency the scammer claimed to represent
