May 21, 2026

Thank you to all those who came out and supported our picnic. It was truly a joyous day. Special thanks to the grilling team, the setup and breakdown crew, those who shopped and made numerous trips to the hall, the potato salad packers, those who prepared children’s activities, and those who baked delicious treats.

Thank you to Bill, Nancy, Linda, Jeff, and the St. Philip Neri planning team for another wonderful picnic! We are so grateful for you. And thanks to Maureen Kelley Stewart for putting together the slideshow for us.

🍕 OYA: Theology by the Slice

The Oratory Young Adults (OYA) invites you to join us for food, drinks, and a bite-sized lecture. This month's talk: "METANOIA IN THE METAVERSE" with Nathan Dufour Oglesby, Ph.D. In the 21st century, more and more of our lives are mediated by digital experience—and the experience of faith is no exception to this. Arguably, the recent "revival" of interest in religion—and in particular Catholicism—is inseparable from the footprint it makes in digital space. What does it mean for the Gospel to be encountered on these platforms, and how does God invite us to engage with, and/or resist, this age of digital media and technological acceleration? Click here to RSVP.

📖 Scriptural Study: Overview of the Wisdom Literature of the Old Testament

“Happy the one who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding! She is a tree of life to those who grasp her, and those who hold her fast are happy.” Proverbs 3:13,18. Please join us for an overview of the seven wisdom books of the Old Testament. These are a treasured collection that often give us the daily liturgical readings and serve as a source of spiritual reading. Jesus drew heavily from their themes during his public ministry. This session is an introduction for other classes later in the year, looking at particular wisdom books, such as Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes.

🙏 The Progress of an American Pope

What have we learned about Pope Leo XIV during his first year in office? Is he “Pope Francis’ last surprise” who will follow through on his vision, or is he carving his own path? How will he steer a church whose future may no longer lie in the West but in the Global South?

America Magazine has been covering the Leo XIV pontificate since day one. Join editors Tim Reidy and Kerry Weber for a conversation about what they have learned so far and what to expect from Leo as he finds his voice at the Vatican.

Mass Intentions

It has been a long tradition in the Church to offer Masses for people to pray, especially for the dead, seeking God’s grace, mercy, and spiritual benefits through Christ’s sacrifice. Usually a modest donation is given for this. In the coming weeks we have several Masses with no particular intentions. If you would like to have a Mass offered for someone (living or deceased), email the parish office at info@oratorychurch.org or click here.
