2026 Janet M. Wendorf

Outstanding Caregiver Award

“Some people choose nursing, but nursing is my life. It is who I am.

I’m deeply honored to do this work."

– Jodie Pohl

This year, the Janet M. Wendorf Outstanding Caregiver Award was awarded to Jodie Pohl, registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.

Jodie has been with McLaren Greater Lansing since 1998. She is an exceptional critical care nurse, and a cornerstone of our ICU department. As a trusted mentor and informal leader, she consistently goes above and beyond to support her colleagues, provide outstanding patient care, and keeps the department running smoothly. Her nursing leaders shared, “her knowledge dedication, and willingness to help others make her an invaluable member of our team. She is the steady presence others depend on and truly represents the heart of critical care nursing. She exemplifies what it means to be a caregiver— not simply through the care she provides, but through the difference she makes in the lives of those around her every day.”

McLaren Greater Lansing leadership, the Wendorf family, colleagues, family and friends were gathered in the Wendorf Courtyard at McLaren Greater Lansing on October 20 to present her the award. The Wendorf Award was created by the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation in 2017 and is named in memory of a longtime supporter of the hospital who understood the importance of giving back to the community. Individuals chosen to receive the award are recognized for their commitment to providing high-quality and compassionate care to patients.

Michigan State University Homecoming

McLaren Greater Lansing is proud to be the official Orthopedic and Sports Medicine partner of Michigan State University Athletics. Each year the hospital invites The Foundation to help in the celebration of MSU Homecoming. We were excited to be able to support the participation of McLaren Greater Lansing in the MSU Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 9, thanks to a Bright Ideas Mini Grant. We also had a wonderful time attending the tailgate party on campus.

POUND Fitness and Plant-Based Nutrition Event

On Wednesday, October 28, our Internal Medicine Residents participated in a wellness event, thanks to Foundation support.

The purpose of this event was to promote physical wellness, healthy nutrition, stress management, and work-life balance among Internal Medicine residents, faculty, and staff through this interactive wellness event. The event combined a POUND fitness class with a healthy plant-based meal and practical nutrition education. POUND Fitness is a high-energy, full-body workout and combines cardio, strand drumming to music using specially designed Ripstix® drumsticks. It was designed to be expressive, fun, and empowering, blending physical intensity with emotional release through rhythm and music. The workout is suitable for all fitness levels and emphasizes individuality, self-expression, and community.

By supporting the health and well-being of our healthcare team, we promote a healthier workplace culture, improve resilience and engagement, and support our team's ability to provide high-quality, compassionate patient care.
