Joe DiStefano is in hot pot heaven at Elmhurst's iCook Thai Cook in this post. Queens Tourism Council's official foodie is among $15 combos ("Happy Meals" according to Joey D) with soup and rice. The catfish pad prik khing features fried basil leaves, green peppercorns, curry paste with the warmth of chili and ginger and perfume of galangal, lemongrass, and lime leaves.

Here’s some street theater that might actually make it to a Queens street. Theater for the New City presents “Liberty or Just Us: a City Park Story” at Travers Park in Jackson Heights on Aug. 23 at 2 pm. (If not possible due to COVID, it’ll stream online.) The oratorio celebrates NYC parks as sites of activism for many 20th and 21st century progressive causes.

The good news is that Commonpoint Queens has just announced Fall 2020: Take a Lunchtime Break, a series of online conversations, lectures, and presentations about art, literature, movies, and even theology. The presenters include art historians, filmmakers, and a retired Reform Rabbi.

The Queens-based BlaQue Resource Network is a space to exchange ideas and share job postings, community events, scholarships, and other items. Interim Borough President Sharon Lee declared Aug. 10 to be "BlaQue Resource Network Day" in Queens. She rocks a blue suit among local business leaders in this photo, while the group's founders -- Aleeia Abraham and Steve Toussaint -- hold the official proclamation.
