Happening Around Ogden

One School, One Book Program is coming to Ogden!

Ogden Avenue School is launching the One School, One Book (OSOB) initiative to foster a unified reading experience among our students, staff, and families.

Each participant receives their very own copy of the selected book, and we'll all follow a set reading schedule. Our chosen book for 2025 is The Wild Robot Escapes by bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator Peter Brown.

It's the sequel to The Wild Robot, and it focuses on the theme of perseverance as the robot protagonist overcomes various challenges. The Wild Robot feature film was released last year, so if you want a quick intro to the first book, check out the cute movie, or our plot summary HERE.

Families are encouraged to read aloud to their children, fostering not only reading skills but also family bonding. Review our dedicated website by clicking HERE for the Ogden OSOB experience where you can consult the reading calendar, enjoy discussion questions, trivia, and view our series of read-aloud videos.

On Monday, April 7, Principal Leeberg will kick off the OSOB program during the lunch periods to introduce the book and get the students excited about this fun all school initiative!!

In order to make sure the Ice Cream Social runs smoothly, we are looking for volunteers (click HERE) to help hand out and scoop complimentary ice cream.

Ice cream is always a highlight for the kids, so thanks in advance for helping us make it happen!

Student Art Show

During the Spring Open House, be sure to stop by the first-floor gym for the wonderful Student

Art Show sponsored by Ogden PTC Art Enrichment.

Stroll through a gallery of student art work all created during Art Enrichment, a long-running Ogden program where parent volunteers visit classrooms to discuss an artist with students and then engage in an art project in the style of the artist. We are so proud of the students and all they have accomplished this year during Art Enrichment!

Book Fair (Extended Shopping Hour from 7 to 8 pm!) and Volunteers Needed

During the Open House on Thursday, April 17, we are so excited to bring back Ogden's second in-person Anderson's Bookshop Book Fair of the 2024-25 school year from 5:30-8 pm in the Ogden gym.

Yep, you read that right... We will stay open past the end of the open house (which closes at 7 pm) to leave time for some after-hours shopping!

We need your help to make it a success.

The forum was held virtually and published on The League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area’s Facebook page and in the Illinois Voter Guide after the forum concludes.

2nd Grade Service Project

Thank you to the second grade families for your generous donation of laundry supplies to our second grade service project. Students enjoyed a brief presentation from a Share Food, Share Love volunteer on the importance of community food pantries and ways to support them. Then they were able to make over 700 laundry packs, containing supplies for 3 or 10 loads of laundry, which were donated to the SFSL pantry in Brookfield.

This hands on project taught the importance of helping others and the difference that collective efforts can make. Thank you for your support.

If you are interested in helping the PTC's Service Committee with future projects, please contact Melissa Seidelmann or Leah Burkiewicz.
