A doctor once told me I feel too much. I said, so does god. That’s why you can see the Grand Canyon from the moon.

Andrea Gibson

The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It's always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do... The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections. Tahereh Mafi

Dear Energy Healing & Wellness Friends,

I remember as a kid the first time I was aware that the moon I saw from my home in Lincoln, Nebraska was the same moon I saw when we came to Colorado for ski trips. Plenty of times in my life I have felt comforted by being under the same moon even when far away geographically from someone I love.

I was just in Philadelphia for a little belated celebration of my grandson, Arlo's, first birthday. I went for a walk by myself in the park across the street from my son and daughter-in-law's row house one night and the moon was so beautiful. I texted my moon circle friends (three friends I do moon rituals with) and sent them this photo. They sent back photos of the moon from their vantage point at that same moment. We shared some words of love and encouragement for things going on in our lives and I went from feeling very alone in that park to feeling connected and appreciated for who I am with all my imperfections.

I want to know what the moon knows about being human. And not just in my head as a concept, but in the cells of my body, mind, and spirit. What does life look like and feel like, if, in each moment, I see imperfections in myself and others as simply that...as being human? What does life look like and feel like to have gentle compassion for myself for just exactly who I am at each stage of my healing journey, in all my deep awareness as well as my blind spots, in all my compassion, as well as my judgements? If I were simply curious when I feel blamed rather than defensive, could I hold more compassion for myself and others? I want that for me. I really want that for all of us.

Sometimes I think that is exactly what is needed in this whole wide world if we are ever going to shift the consciousness of this planet. When things feel crazy and out of control in the world and we don't know what to do about it, I wonder how powerful some self-curiosity could be...to simply start right where we are in our own lives. Is the core of chaos in the world related to disharmony in the soul of each person? I don't know. But I intend to explore that question in my own life with curiosity instead of fear. With love instead of fear. With gentleness and tenderness instead of fear, blame, projection, or judgment, each time something arises that knocks me off my center. Are we all, globally, being called to stop making enemies out of people who think differently than we do, who hold different viewpoints than we do? Does this only change globally when we start to apply it to our individual relationships? How do we start to see more of the divinity in each other instead of letting ourselves be threatened by a path that is different than our own?

One of the reasons I'm good at my job is I feel and sense even the most subtle things very deeply. It's why it is easy for me to read subtle energy. There are hazards to every profession and I think this might be one of mine...it's hard to blow things off because I feel them so deeply! I appreciate the Andrea Gibson quote above about feeling too much. I feel seen and heard with that quote! Sometimes just feeling seen and heard is all any of us need to begin feeling safe enough to heal the things that make us reactive instead of responsive to life and to find our way to our center easier when things throw us off. Thank you for trusting me to be part of your journey of being seen and heard in a safe space to allow energy shifts to happen that in turn, support your highest healing. I'm always so grateful to the practitioners who provide that for me too.

Speaking of the late Andrea Gibson, I was very entertained listening to her recite a list of things her newsletter readers wrote in called Things That Don't Suck. Click here to take a listen and then see the journal prompt box below to do your own writing in that vein.

It is hard to have a grandchild so far away, but incredibly sweet to get to have some time with him, getting to know who he is at each stage, when I am able to see him. Here he is sitting on my lap trying on a shirt I bought for him. Who doesn't love a soft, cozy, thrifted flannel shirt? Seeing him in that flannel made me even more excited for fall than I already am.

We are already on session five of the Awakening Your Creative Muse journaling series this week. The class happening on Thursday is called Personifying Your Emotions for Healing. It's a creative way to look, with both depth and levity, at challenging or enjoyable feelings you are having, to mine them for information and opportunities for growth.

If you haven't yet used my online scheduling, here is a link for you!

I look forward to meeting you in a session or a class, wherever you are on your own healing journey. Thank you for being here in my Energy Healing & Wellness community and for caring about self-awareness, wellness, and energy healing. Thanks for wanting to learn to do this life with more ease and grace and compassion. We are all on this path of healing together and there is comfort in knowing that. I appreciate each and every one of you more than you know.

Awakening Your Creative Muse Series Engaging in creative activities lowers cortisol levels (a stress hormone) and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is your body’s natural "rest and digest" state. Journaling on its own supports greater self-awareness, clarity, and a more gentle and compassionate relationship with yourself. So what happens when we combine journaling with various fun ways to awaken your creative muse? Come join us for this magical alchemy and find out! All classes are recorded so you can do the full series even if you can't make it to every class live on Zoom.

Wellness Tip

Structure or Variety? What's Your Style?

For the first time ever in my life, I have a whole room for fitness. It's about the size of the footprint of my tiny house! And it's all for fitness. Spreading myself out into a full house just for me has been wild and fun after living tiny and then small for four years.

I definitely stretch more with my yoga mat and foam roller right there, laid out and ready for me. I do push-ups more. I hang from my pull-up bar often and lift my knees to my chest while I'm hanging...sometimes. But I'm noticing that what I do with an alarming amount of consistency is save reels from Instagram that feature workout ideas. I do this while lounging horizontal on the couch. 😂

If I think back to the whole of my life, I jump around a lot from one thing to the next when it comes to fitness. Remember when it was hula hooping I was into? In the tiny house during my first Vermont winter, it was shuffle dancing. In the carriage house on Loomis I was into setting the timer for 7 minutes and doing anything strength-ish for 7 minutes, while listening to great music. For a while I went to the gym at Northside Aztlan. Yoga has been a regular for me for many phases in the past. Whatever it is I'm into, I often stick it out a handful of months. Sometimes weeks. Maybe even a year. But eventually it loses novelty or something. Then I stop.

I'm accepting the reality that structure is not my thing. I like variety! I like listening to my body, following my joy, and being playful with movement in the moment. I like little bits here and there throughout the day instead of one big sweaty workout. And for now, I've decided little bits are better than nothing. Sometimes, while I'm waiting for water to boil, I'm trying out a lymph stimulation exercise. Or when my bathtub water is running, I might do a headstand. Occasionally, I pick up the dumbbells and remind myself that my career for a decade before I started energy healing was personal training and I DO know what to do with them.

Do an assessment of the ways that are natural for you to move your body. Do you just like to add a little extra oomph to your power cleaning or yard work instead of doing an actual workout? Do you ever have family dance parties? How about a table top stretch of your back holding on to your kitchen counter? Maybe some toe raises while going up your stairs?

This week just notice your natural inclinations to move and find a way to enhance what you are already doing. If you feel like emailing me your unique ideas for fitness and your strategies for gaining more daily movement, I'd love to hear! Maybe one day I'll implement my idea to try one reel per day of all the fitness ideas I have saved! If I save your ideas in the same place I save the Instagram links, I might be over here trying out your unique workout ideas one of these days. But for now, in my quest for more radical self-acceptance, I'll appreciate that I have a space for fitness for when I feel like it and if instead I feel like dancing under the full moon in my backyard in the dark with headphones on (my own private silent disco!) instead of using that fancy dumbbell set, then so be it!

Journal Prompt

Things that Don't Suck

I know I always say to frame things in the positive instead of the negative, but I think this is a fun exercise to see what specific things come up when you frame it as "Things that Don't Suck" instead of things I'm grateful for. I laughed at the one in this recording from Andrea Gibson of "People who don't wear perfume." I've always struggled with the smell of strong perfume giving me a headache, so there was something about the double negative of the two "don't's" that made me laugh.

You know what else doesn't suck? The blissful peace of a little one asleep in your arms. Pure heaven.

See what else you come up with and email me your favorites if you feel like it!
