Tiger Tennis is Back!

Thanks to the Addison Community Athletics Foundation, Middlebury Indoor Tennis is pleased to once again offer a free session of Tiger Tennis this spring at the club. Tiger Tennis is open to beginner through intermediate level middle and high school students who want to learn how to play tennis. This six-week program is available at no-charge to local students in grades 6 and up. Tiger Tennis will run on Tuesday and Thursdays, 3:30 - 5 pm, from April 7 to May 21. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Email Franz Collas for more information or to register.

USTA Leagues

Middlebury Indoor Tennis is proud to be the home facility for four USTA adult teams this winter. Thank you to our members who have captained teams so that others can enjoy competitive league tennis. We are looking forward to additional USTA adult teams coming on line this spring! USTA teams playing out of MIT in 2026 so far this year include:

  • Chavez/Potter: Mixed Doubles 8.0, 40 and over, captained by Meshi Chavez and Heather Potter
  • Overserved: Mixed Doubles 8.0, 18 and over, captained by Jill Dunn and Steve Young
  • Match.net: Mixed Doubles 7.0, 18 and over, captained by Sara Marshall
  • Tie Dye Breakers: 4.0, Women's 40 and over, captained by Jill Dunn

Thank you, captains!!

High School Teams

Pre-season starts in late March for high school spring sports. Our club looks forward to once again welcoming the Middlebury Union High School girls and boys tennis teams for pre-season practices. Spring weather can be unpredictable, and we are happy that our indoor facility provides access to dependable court time for the teams. Since teams will practice during the early morning and late evening hours, members can expect minimal impact to court availability.

Fourth Annual Community Match

For the past three years, MUHS Boys Tennis coach Ken Schoen has organized a friendly Community Match to get his team primed for the season. An MIT men's team faces off against the MUHS Boys Tennis team for a fun afternoon of tennis. The team that prevails wins the "Ignat Cup" for the year - a delightfully re-purposed tennis trophy with a fresh overgrip naming the winning team and honoring MIT founders David and Eleanor Ignat. The Community Team has prevailed 2-1 over the Boys Team, and the outcome of this year's match could level the record. Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 12th at 1 pm for the 2026 Community Match at MIT!

Did You Know?

Did you know that Middlebury Indoor Tennis is a 501(c)3 non-profit entity? When David and Eleanor Ignat decided to step back from the operations of MIT, they created the Addison Community Athletic Foundation (ACAF). The foundation is overseen by a board of directors and David and Eleanor have continued to be involved by holding seats on this board. Eleanor has recently retired from the board and Elizabeth Ignat Bausch, one of the Ignat's daughters, has filled the position. The Ignats established an endowment to support the mission of ACAF. Because of this support,

we are able to maintain membership and teaching fees that are below what most clubs charge. We host free youth clinics to encourage young people to get interested in our sport. We offer scholarships and reduced fees to make tennis accessible to those who might otherwise not be able to enjoy the game. If you would like to help with our efforts, please let us know; we would be happy to talk to you! MIT's general manager, Brian McDonough, can be reached by calling the club or via email.

Clean Courts!

Have you noticed how bright and clean the courts are? Our staff recently completed the big job of sweeping and washing all three courts! Please help us keep the courts in good condition this spring. Changing into clean shoes that have not been tracked in mud and winter grit goes a long way to keeping the courts enjoyable for all. We find all kinds of treasures on the courts too...chewed gum, rocks, candy wrappers, clots of grass, eyeglasses, and even diamond jewelry. Please keep track of your treasures while you are at the club, and if you don't want them, place them in the garbage bins off the court. Thank you!

Summer Youth Programs

Summer will be here before we know it! The club's current youth programs will conclude on May 21st. For parents looking for summer activities for their kids, please note that we are planning to run summer camps again this year, similar in format to last year. In collaboration with the Middlebury Parks and Recreation Program, we will run morning outdoor camps in Middlebury, beginning in late June. We will also run indoor afternoon programs and look forward to providing opportunities for kids ages 5 to 18 to play tennis this summer.

New Members

Welcome to new members Brad and Heidi Greenwald, Katie Langrock, Nina Ruhle, and Walker Wonham. We look forward to seeing you on the courts!
