K-12 Math Network
The 2023-2024 K-12 Math Network included educators from 15 local school districts Network participants focused on implementing the eight mathematical practices through strategies, routines, and tasks to engage students in active learning, connecting math knowledge, and facilitating student communication. Below are some comments regarding the Network learning experience:

“I have loved seeing all of the different challenges, resources, and examples that have been demonstrated like “would you rather” and the work on the walls, pinch cards, etc. I have learned a lot.”

“I think I've always thought of the math practices as something else that I need to do, instead of realizing that they are naturally incorporated into my teaching and that if I were to make small changes I would be able to effectively incorporate all of the practice standards.

“It has really helped me build my math teaching skill knowledge as I made the move from Prek to 3rd grade this year! Big jump with lots of "new" skills to learn to teach and this helped tremendously!!”

Digging Deeper into the Thinking Classroom (K-12)
June 25

Participants will revisit the Building Thinking Classrooms framework, and experience and learn about Peter Liljedahl’s latest research on consolidation and note-taking. This session will give participants the opportunity to reflect on building the thinking classroom, and share experiences and discuss continued implementation. Former "Introduction to Building Thinking Classrooms" session participants will have the opportunity to explore additional practices and collaborate with and learn from others who have begun the implementation journey. Join us in this one-day session to dig deeper into the thinking classroom.
Putting the Practices into Action w/ John SanGiovanni (K-12)
June 26

This workshop is a deep dive into these mathematical practices, helping teachers understand what they are and how to bring them to life in the mathematics classroom. The workshop unpacks what the practices look like and provides a wealth of instructional practices for infusing them. The workshop will also feature strategies for developing number sense and problem solving.
What Students Do Fostered by How you Teach Math (K-12)
Repeated Network Sessions

Are your students making connections in math class? Do they have the stamina needed to persevere through challenging problems? Can they share their thinking in multiple ways? Come learn engaging strategies to develop your students’ critical thinking skills. Each session will focus on specific math practices through implementing strategies, routines and tasks to engage students in active learning, connecting math knowledge, and facilitating student communication through talking and writing. Collectively, participants will learn about the eight mathematical practices as outlined by NCTM.

*The below may be taken as a single session or in any combination of two to four sessions.

June 27 - Session 1: Math Practice 3 (Critical Thinking/Justify Reasoning) + Math Practice 6 (Communicate and Compute w/ Precision)

July 10 - Session 2: Math Practice 2 (Reason Contextually and Abstractly) + Math Practice 5 (Use of Tools Effectively & Strategically)

July 17 - Session 3: Math Practice 1 (Persevere and Problem Solve) + Math Practice 8 (Look for and Express Repeated Reasoning)

July 24 - Session 4: Math Practice 4 (Modeling Real-World Situations) + Math Practice 7 (Use of Structures and Patterns)
Math Fluency (K-5)
August 7

State standards require students to demonstrate fluency, but what does that really mean? Fluency is more than a quick answer; it requires conceptual understanding of operations and properties along with students' knowledge of various strategies and representations. Join us to learn how to give each student access to the knowledge and power to become skilled and confident mathematical thinkers and doers. By the end of the session, participants will: understand the definition and big ideas of Fluency, investigate strategies for efficient and flexible learners, and learn and play Fluency games and routines for classroom use.
