FRIDAY FLASH

March 31, 2023

A Note from Headmaster Scott

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

This week we had a unique opportunity to engage in a significant training as a faculty. This was my third time with this particular program, but I always find it beneficial. The program is called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). One of the things that stuck out for me was the understanding the children think pictorially. If you say to a child “Don’t run,” the child will focus primarily on the word “run” because it can be pictured. Consideration of the word “don’t” requires effort, it is not automatic. This is an example of just one of the many things we learned about how to communicate effectively with children and to lead them to The Good in ways that are receivable by them.

We learned that a good rule of thumb for giving feedback is to have 4-5 positive statements for every corrective statement. After the training, we set this as a goal for our faculty. I included myself in this exercise as well. We are going to track our feedback with the goal of being able to keep a 5 to 1 ratio on our feedback. I’ve done this exercise before and maintaining the ratio is harder than it seems until it becomes habit. Please join us! Try it out at home. I am confident that, just like I’ve told our teachers, your connections will be stronger and the feeling in your home (or classroom) will be more pleasant. Have a great weekend!

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott

Headmaster

Tax Credit

PAJAMAS & POPCORN

In case you missed it…the Tax Credit Drive is so important that we have recently upped the stakes! Every classroom that brings in 8 Tax Credits between 3/9 and 4/17 (the official tax filing deadline for 2023) will earn a PAJAMA & POPCORN experience on 5/23/23!

CONGRATULATIONS to 1A for swiftly reaching their classroom goal! As their class continues to bring in Tax Credits, those beyond 8 will be banked until we get closer to the end of the Tax Credit Drive and used to potentially boost classrooms that haven’t yet reached their goal!

  1. Submit Tax Credits HERE. The Tax Credit can come from your own family, or it can be a Tax Credit from anyone that lists your family/children’s name(s) in the Student Referral so we can credit your child’s classroom. If you have multiple children, each of their classes will get credit!
  2. Check the real-time Classroom Counts towards the Pajama and Popcorn experience HERE or by scanning the QR code below. This chart will get updated as often as we get in new Tax Credits.

Let’s reach that GOAL together. Go Squires!

We are currently at 60% to goal, and below are the current standings for our Dunk a Dean.

VOTE TODAY for the Dean you most want to see dunked when we meet our Tax Credit goal!! Currently, Mrs. Higbee is in the lead.

State Testing Dates (3rd-5th Grade Students Only)

Please mark your calendars for the following state-testing dates. In order to best prepare for the exams, we ask that you take note of the dates below and plan ahead. If a student leaves the testing environment, s/he cannot continue their exam and it will be submitted as-is. Please do not schedule appointments for these dates or pull your children out early.

We recommend that your scholars get a good night's sleep the day before and a nutritious breakfast in the morning. Please have students bring the following: a healthy snack and water bottle for the break during testing.

Additionally, all students should bring a set of headphones, as certain parts of the test require audio. These must not be Bluetooth headphones, but be able to connect via an auxiliary cord.

3rd Grade: April 3, 4, 24, 25

4th Grade: 6, 18, 20, 21

5th Grade: April 5, 11, 14, 17

Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off/Pick-up

With the expansion of Archway and addition of the new building, there are significant changes to the traffic flow for the upcoming school year. Please carefully review the new Archway Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off and Pick-up and reach out with any questions. Taking the time to understand these procedures will help to ensure the safety of our students/staff and a smooth traffic flow.

Carpooling Update: Our east side pick-up lane has had a faster track and will now be our designated carpool lane.

If you have 2 or more Archway ONLY pick-up cards, you will be guided into this fast-track lane for a faster pick-up. Please be sure to have your pick-up cards ready to show our traffic controllers that you are carpooling so they can guide you to the appropriate lane. To maintain the flow of pick-up, others may be directed to the fast-track lane, but carpools will be given priority. Please do not enter the carpool lanes until you are directed to do so.

As a reminder, if you are picking up Middle School students DO NOT ARRIVE to campus before 3:15 PM. This creates significant delays. If you arrive before 3:15, we will ask you to go back into our pick-up lanes and try again.

Please follow the link below to review the DETAILED Archway Traffic Flow Plan and be sure to share this link with anyone authorized to drop-off/pick-up your children.
