This weekend, we honor our dearly departed Asbury saints in honor of All Saints Sunday. We will gather in worship and light a candle in remembrance for those who have transitioned from life to the life eternal over this past year, and give thanks for their ongoing presence in our lives.

The prophet Isaiah had a beautiful vision (Isaiah 25:6-9) where we are all gathered together on a mountain ready to experience the full bounty and blessing of God, ready to share in a special meal, ready to have all of our tears wiped away as we live into the joy of God's love together. That's what we'll be lifting up this Sunday - mourning those who we have lost, while celebrating the hope that is to come as people of faith.

Listen to Pastor Jeff talk about this and more in his video this week. We hope to see you this Sunday at 9 and 11 am in worship.

Thank You for a Wonderful Consecration Sunday

We celebrated a wonderful Consecration Sunday last week, as Pastor Jeff led our worship with a sermon about treasure. As Asbury begins collecting pledges for next year, sharing our treasures will help Asbury continue its mission and ministry of being a place where all are welcome; where all can see and know that they are loved by God.

We'd love for you to join us by submitting your Estimated of Giving Card for 2027. Pledge cards can be dropped off anytime at the front desk, Monday-Friday, from 9 am-5 pm. If you need to pick up a card, call us at the church at 913-432-5573 and we'll be happy to help you out.

Check out a video that was aired in worship last week that shows all the wonderful ways all of you have participated in ministry this year. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being a valued member of our Asbury family. We couldn't be who we are without each of YOU.

November Sermon Series: "Joyful, Anyway"

How do we find meaning in the midst of struggles? How do we experience joy when personal and societal difficulties seem to always get in the way? As we begin to prepare for the holiday season, how can we offer thanks even as we endure the aches and pains of daily living?

Starting Nov. 8 in worship, we’ll be starting a new Sermon Series titled "Joyful, Anyway," based on Kate Bowler’s book of the same name. Bowler talks about how to experience joy even in the midst of life’s struggles (hers are based in part on her own journey with cancer).

You are welcome to read the book as a personal devotion or Sunday School class study as we dive into worship exploring the aches of life, the mourning we experience all leading to the joy of living. We hope you join us in November!

Charge Cluster Conference: Monday, November 16

This year, we will be having Cluster Charge Conferences across the Northeast Kansas District, and Asbury’s is scheduled for Monday, November 16 at 6:00 PM. Old Mission UMC in Fairway will be the host. Participants include Asbury, Old Mission, Roots, Leawood, and St. Mark’s Overland Park.

All are welcome to attend! Questions? Contact Pastor Jeff at JeffP@visitasbury.org.

It's Time to Give H.U.G.S.

From November 15 through December 6, Asbury's United Women in Faith are sponsoring a collection of Hats, Underwear, Gloves, and Socks (H.U.G.S.) for Lazarus Ministries and The Hub.

The biggest need is for men's gloves & hats, as well as socks and underwear for both men and women. Items must be NEW and can be placed by the tree in the Narthex. Let's help our fellow Kansas Citians stay warm this winter!

Light Up Hager Hall

In 2024, Asbury launched a campaign to replace 41 fluorescent fixtures in Hager Hall with energy-efficient LED lighting. That project is now complete, along with the conversion of 60 additional fixtures throughout the building, primarily on the first floor. LEDs provide brighter, higher-quality light, last longer, and use less energy.

Thank you to our United Women in Faith for raising awareness, the Church Trustees for overseeing the project, and everyone who helped fund the approximately $7,900 cost—including members of our congregation and grants from the endowed Building Fund. But there’s more to do: another 100 fixtures on the second and third floors of the west wing still need to be converted. Stay tuned for updates!!
