A Message from NARFE FL President
|
|
Dear NARFE Florida Members,
The National Executive Board and the Federation Presidents recently met in Alexandria, Virginia to address the current and long term needs to continue NARFE’s successes. The unanimous agreement was on immediately doubling NARFE’s membership. Basically, NARFE requests that each member recruits a new member or reinstates a former member. That would double our present membership, allowing NARFE to be a more serious organization to reckon with. Many more suggestions were offered to increase our membership and most of them can be accomplished by us in Florida. Many of us are members of other federal organizations that have annual conferences. If NARFE is made aware of a particular conference, our participation can be a NARFE table manned by several volunteers to tell the NARFE story and why folks need to become members. Also discussed were ways we can recruit from a variety of demographics, especially those who are much younger than the average age of a NARFE member.
Closing Chapters, communications with National Only Members, record retention and disposal, improved usage of AMS, updating our NARFE magazine, and our upcoming Conference/Convention were also discussed. If Conference/ Convention got your attention, it’s because there has been an outcry for the older convention format to be revived. The dates which were secured prior to the pandemic and updated during that time are August 18, 2024, through August 20, 2024. We are asking for a minimum of 700 attendees. The Grand Hyatt Regency Hotel will be our host and it is located near the famous arches.
Although our time in Virginia was short, it was time well spent. There is much information to share, and I hope to meet with NARFE Florida members throughout the coming months to share how the new suggestions can be implemented. Don’t be surprised if I and other executive board members appear at your meetings. That’s all part of the plan to revitalize NARFE Florida.
Yours in NARFE Service,

I have been with NARFE in several roles and am anxious to hear from you.
My goal is to help you get information out to other Federal Employees with some funds allocated by our Florida Federation.
This title used to be Chapter Assistance Officer, but since we now have Chapters and National Members in Florida, the title was changed. Reminder from: Trish Vevera, Federation Assistance Chair.
It's Fall. Time to get rejuvenated, especially here in Florida. Do you or your chapter seek new members? Jump start your NARFE endeavors by placing an ad in a nearby paper or holding an Introduction to NARFE event. Some papers offer free announcements, but if not, you can apply to NARFE Florida for up to $200 each "semester" to advertise or pay in part for an event.. Take a look at the application form--it's easy, it's painless. You just have to spend a few minutes applying. Hoping to hear from you.

Recruiting and Retention Thought!
Remember, membership retention – like a marriage – is work. In fact it’s often harder to keep members than to get new ones.
A great recruiting pitch may get members in the DOOR, but it’s how your organization functions that’s going to keep them HANGING AROUND.
