What is DVAM?

Join WRC this October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a month of events and activities to engage our community in open dialogue about domestic violence, raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence, and show our unwavering support for survivors.

#Every1KnowsSome1 impacted by domestic violence. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 34% of women and 17% of men in the United States have reported contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime. Domestic violence is not just physical, it can be emotional, verbal, sexual, or financial and can occur in person or through technology.

High rates of domestic violence are not private, individual problems; they require community solutions. By acknowledging this reality, we can collectively work toward ending domestic violence and creating safe, healthy communities for everyone.

Upcoming DVAM Events with WRC

October 14, please join us for a conversation about Domestic Violence in the LGBTQ+ Community at Strange Birds, 1141 Capouse Avenue, Scranton. Speakers include Peg Ruddy from WRC, Charley Rude from Strange Birds, and Brittny Servello from PCADV (Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence).

The Empty Place at the Table exhibit begins at 5pm and speakers begin at 6pm.

Over 3/4 of survivors talk to their healthcare providers about their experiences. WRC's advocates are a key partner for referrals and support.

On October 14, for Health Cares about Domestic Violence Day, WRC will deliver baskets to some of our health care partners in Lackawanna and Susquehanna County with information about WRC, as well as some candy and WRC branded items. It's a small way to continue to build relationships and express our thanks!

The 3rd Thursday of October, October 15, is national Wear Purple Day. It is a day to show your support for survivors and raise awareness about domestic violence and available resources in our community. Organize co-workers, friends, classmates, and family to wear purple on October 15! If you like, share a pic and tag #WRC

All month long, local businesses will be collecting donations of new full sized personal hygiene items, pet supplies and basic household items.

Along with these locations, the businesses at 629 E. Drinker Street in Dunmore have a collection box, and Tsunami Self Defense Systems and the Wilkes Barre Scranton Roller Derby also collected items!

Basic personal and pet supplies can be such a relief to survivors, who often leave their situation with next to nothing. It helps provide dignity and security.

Celebrating 50 Years of Hope: WRC's Golden Jubilee

WRC's Golden Jubilee has officially SOLD OUT!

You can still support as a sponsor or purchase a program ad and will be added to our waiting list if seats open up. Thanks so much for your incredible support of WRC!

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has made a transformative investment in WRC’s future, awarding a $1 million grant in 2025 and pledging an additional $500,000 if we raise the same amount by the end of 2026.

As we mark 50 years of impact, we know this goal is within reach thanks to the generosity of our donors and community. Join us in helping unlock this additional $500,000 and expand our impact.
