Thank You: Apple Dumpling Sale

What an amazing year for our Apple Dumpling Sale at Windy Hill on the Campus! We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this fundraiser such a success. Together, we sold 738 homemade apple dumplings and that raised approximately $3,500 for Windy Hill, our nonprofit organization!

This would not have been possible without our incredible community. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard, from peeling, coring, and wrapping apples to preparing dough, assembling dumplings, and helping in the kitchen during baking. Every helping hand made a difference!

Thank you to Fetters Orchards for generously donating locally grown Adams County apples and to Hillandale Farms for donating local eggs. We are also grateful to everyone who helped sell dumplings and to every person who purchased them and supported our mission.

From the first apple peeled to the very last dumpling sold, this fundraiser was a true team effort. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful community standing behind Windy Hill!

New! Tech Assist w/ Students!

New Program: Intergenerational Tech Buddies!

Have questions about your phone, tablet, or computer? Windy Hill on the Campus is excited to introduce Intergenerational Tech Buddies, a new program connecting our members with Spring Grove Area High School students for technology assistance!

Beginning in November, high school students will visit Windy Hill on the second and fourth Monday of each month to help members with their technology questions. Whether you need help navigating your phone, learning to use an app, adjusting settings, or figuring out something new on your device, our Tech Buddies will be there to lend a hand.

November Sessions will take place on:

  • Monday, November 9th at 10 am
  • Monday, November 23rd at 10 am

This will be a drop-in program, so you can stop by when you need assistance. You’re also welcome to attend regularly and use each session as an opportunity to learn new skills and become more comfortable with technology.

Members will have the opportunity to complete an interest form to let us know what kind of technology help they need. These forms are located in the Windy Hill office. This will help our student volunteers prepare and make the most of each visit.

We’re looking forward to bringing generations together to learn from one another and make technology a little less intimidating! Sign up on Copilot under "Tech Assist"

Friendly Reminder: Bring Your Copilot Card!

We love seeing you at Windy Hill! When you come in, please remember to bring your Copilot card and tap in for all the activities you’re here to do that day — even if you already preregistered.

Here’s why it matters:

  • If we ever have to cancel a class or program, we email those who are signed up ahead of time.

  • Tapping in helps us know who’s in the building — which is super important for safety.

  • It also helps us plan for the future and gather the data we need for grants and funding that keep Windy Hill thriving.

If you’re part of SilverSneakers, Renew Active, or OnePass, don’t forget to select your insurance benefit when signing in for any active programs (like yoga, drumming, chair exercises, or billiards). You can skip this for social or creative programs like lunch, bingo, or crafts.

Thanks so much for helping us keep things running smoothly — your participation truly makes a difference!

Did you know you don't have to be celebrating your own birthday and/or anniversary in order to join us for our monthly parties? We'd love to have more members coming out each month to help us celebrate. Join us in November on Tuesday, November 17th at 10 am to celebrate November birthdays and anniversaries featuring the talented DJ Chris! Check the Bin, Please!

The next time you're at the center, please check the bin in the lobby to see if you have mail. These are filed in alphabetical order by last name. There are many pieces of mail that haven't been picked up for members who are here frequently. These could be birthday/anniversary party invites, thank you letters, etc. This helps us to save money on postage and allows us to get the mail to you sooner (as long as it's picked up *wink*). Thank you in advance for understanding!

Every Meal Makes a Difference!

Join us for Lunch!

One of the easiest ways to support Windy Hill is simply by joining us for lunch in our Erlemeier Family Cafeteria.

There is no charge to enjoy a congregate meal, and while donations are always appreciated, they are never required. Just by eating lunch at Windy Hill, you're helping us secure vital government funding that supports our center. The funding we receive is based on the number of individual members age 60+ who are served at our center, the number of grab and go meals we serve, and the number of meals we deliver through our home delivered meals program. That means every lunch you enjoy here helps strengthen Windy Hill's ability to continue serving older adults in our community.

We are only allowed to provide 1 meal per person per day though, so unfortunately if we have extra meals we need to make sure they are taken by people who haven't already had that day's meal.

So come for the delicious meal, stay for the fellowship and amazing programs, and know that every lunch you share with us helps make a lasting difference. We look forward to seeing you around the table! Scroll down to the Lunch Program portion of this email to learn more about how to sign up for meals.

Would you like breakfast to return to Windy Hill? Please fill out the survey below to help us come up with ideas on what you would like to see us serve for breakfast.

Policy on Visitors

We understand that some of our members serve as caretakers of their grandchildren, however, we need to keep in mind that we are a senior center for active, independent older adults ages 60+ and spouses of those 60+.

Our member handbook states that "children are to be permitted to visit the center for specific intergenerational programs and under controlled conditions, as scheduled and approved by the staff. Prior permission must be obtained before bringing a child to the center". On special occasions we may permit a child to visit the center, but this is not a daily occurrence.
