Collectors Choice XX
Livestreamed on YouTube
Saturday, November 7, 2020
Collectors Choice is an evening of original artwork, suspenseful fun, and–best of all–luck of the draw! Beloved for 19 years by local artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts, the event raises funds to support the mission and programs of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild.
Each guest gets an original piece of art. As each Collectors Choice ticket holder is randomly selected, the lucky person acquires one piece of original artwork (valued at $250 or more) of his or her choice. Tickets are limited to the number of artworks available.
This year Collectors Choice XX goes virtual! The safety of guests, volunteers and staff is our top priority. We look forward to seeing you in real-time as the event streams live on YouTube.

Portrait Drawing in Chalk
November 16–December 14
|
This class will make an examination of the portrait. We will initially discuss staging, lighting the model, and composing on our paper. We will continue further to discuss facial proportion as we establish an organizational line drawing of our model. We will then define the planer structure of the facial anatomy in order to see the face as a series of successively shrinking planes that reflect varied degrees of light back to the viewer. This is the ‘architecture’ of our likeness. At this point, we will take note of what can be called a ‘light system’ and a ‘shadow system,’ and determine which of the planes formerly established lies within each system. Finally, we will discuss the application of relative values to the drawing and resolve the image into a solid likeness.

New Perspectives in Drawing and Painting: A Virtual Exhibition
The St. Louis Artists’ Guild is calling for artists working in drawing and painting techniques. Over the past 50 years, drawing has been elevated from a supporting role to a primary medium, ranking alongside painting as a central art form. Despite its long history, painting continues to evolve and excite, with new generations taking it in unexpected directions. A central pillar of artistic practice, painting also has an enduring appeal for collectors and still dominates the art market. This exhibition takes the conversation forward, showcasing artists working in drawing and painting media that are bringing contemporary topics, issues, and aesthetics to traditional practices.
Juror: Justin Henry Miller - Associate Professor and Exhibitions Coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University
Justin Henry Miller's work emerges from an interest in our inundation of images and the mental layering that occurs as we experience, process, and recall. The elements that compose Miller's paintings are coalescing fragments that teeter between cooperation and individualism. In some instances, the interweaving layers come together to provide a greater clarity, while in others they convolute. Still in some pieces, unique moments ultimately prevail.
