It seems summer came and went in a flash, but there is a lot to look forward in the fall, including the always entertaining Ukranian Festival happening later this month, not to mention the glorious fall colours in High Park.

The big news in real estate is that as predicted, the Bank of Canada reduced the key interest rate by another 25 points to 4.25%. BoC governer Tiff Macklem said “If inflation continues to ease broadly in line with our July forecast, it is reasonable to expect further cuts in our policy rate.”, which bodes well for those renewing a mortgage in the next year or so.

We experienced a typical quiet August in the real estate market, but the fall market already appears to be heating up with an increased number of listing hitting the market. Will buyers show up after the rates have dropped again? The smart ones will, because as interest rates decrease, housing prices will increase.

Greater Toronto Area (GTA) home sales were down on a year-over-year basis in August 2024. New listings were up slightly over the same period. While the region’s housing market remained well-supplied in August, average home prices only edged slightly lower compared to August 2023.
