THIS WEEK IN HOUSTON

June 18–22, 2025

This week, Houston comes alive with citywide sound and soul—from Juneteenth celebrations honoring freedom and resilience to Music Day Houston, filling the air with rhythm and community spirit.

From cocktails to cold brews, check out the weekly vinyl vibes at the ultra-hip Hotel Saint Augustine and the monthly community block party at the iconic Beer Can House.

Then, on Friday, welcome the summer solstice with a rare musical experience: pianist Matthew Shipp premieres a site-specific composition inspired by Mark Rothko's meditative canvases—only at the Rothko Chapel, with two intimate daytime performances.
