Dear New York City students, faculty, and staff:
The renovation project for the east side of One Pace Plaza is set to begin next week. When it’s complete, we’ll have new academic and common spaces in One Pace Plaza, an updated residence hall, and a brand-new, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center to serve as a home base for Sands College, a hub for our campus community, and a destination for our downtown neighborhood.

These are the changes you will see on the campus starting this weekend:

  • Dining Services will close in One Pace Plaza on Sunday, October 1, and the new dining spaces in 15 Beekman will open on Monday, October 2. Food trucks will be available in the Frankfort Street parking lot over the weekend as dining operations are scaled down in One Pace Plaza.
  • Effective Monday, October 2, the east side of One Pace Plaza will be fully closed for the renovation period, through 2026. The entrance at 3 Spruce Street/Schimmel Center will be locked, and barriers will be placed in the bridges connecting it to the west side of the building.
  • You will continue to be able to access the west side of One Pace Plaza through the main entrance facing City Hall and through the 9 Spruce Street entrance.
  • The courtyard will be closed for the duration of the construction period.
  • A sidewalk passageway from the garden-level Lubin entrance to the Frankfort Street parking lot will continue to allow access to the building from Frankfort Street.
  • University Health Care and the ID Card office will be operating in 161 William Street.
  • Construction fencing will be erected around the building, on Spruce Street and Frankfort Street, and the courtyard in the coming weeks.

Through the course of this project, please look out for updates posted to the digital screens throughout the campus, and we will send messages like this one with significant news. You can also find all information about the project, including status reports, at the Campus Planning and Facilities website.

While any construction project always causes some disruption, we hope our plans will keep any inconvenience to a minimum. We will keep you apprised as work gets underway, and we look forward to moving back into our new spaces in 2026.
Sincerely,
Ibi Yolas
Vice President, University Campus Planning and Facilities
