Rising Together

Join us on Tuesday, February 13th for our Black History Month celebration with “Rising Together,” accompanied by our Presenting Sponsor Reliant Energy.

On February 13th, Reliant Energy and Houston Rockets’ volunteers will complete our repairs on Mr. Douglas Goosby’s home here on The Columbia Tap Trail. Mr. Douglas Goosby has lived in Third Ward for more than 50 years, growing up near Cuney Homes, right around the corner from his current home. He acquired the house from his late father who passed away in 2006.

We’re excited to continue repairing homes in the historic Third Ward, sparked by our 2022 partnership with The Northern Third Ward Neighborhood Implementation Project.

Are you a Third Ward resident? Interested in learning about this historic neighborhood? RSVP here to join the 11am community walk with Fit Houston and Urban Paths!

Help for Extreme Weather

We're expecting more temperature extremes this year. Threats of freezing cold in the winter and long spells of 100 degree summertime heat means our vulnerable neighbors face serious health and safety challenges. That’s why our partnership with Bank of America is so important. We will continue to install window Heat/AC units around Houston throughout the year.

Nicolas Arriaga, who experienced a life-threatening stroke in 2018, is fortunate enough to have kind neighbors who watch out for him. One of those neighbors saw the RTH Extreme Heat program on Telemundo Houston news this summer and suggested he apply. Our staff replaced his old, dangerous gas heater with our energy efficient Heat/AC window unit, ensuring a warm home this winter.
