This-Worldliness

“It is only by living completely in this world that one learns to have faith. One must completely abandon any attempt to make something of oneself, whether it be a saint, or a converted sinner, or a churchman (a so-called priestly type!), a righteous person or an unrighteous one, a sick or a healthy one. By this-worldliness I mean living unreservedly in life’s duties, problems, successes and failures, experiences and perplexities. In doing so, we throw ourselves completely into the arms of God, taking seriously, not our own sufferings, but those of God in the world — watching with Christ in Gethsemane. That, I think, is faith; that is metanoia [transformation]; and that is how one becomes a human being and a Christian. How can success make us arrogant, or failure lead us astray, when we share in God’s sufferings through a life of this kind?”

Please note that Daylight Savings ends this Sunday, so be sure to set your clocks back!

Churchwide BBQ Celebrating 105 Years!

This Sunday, November 2, join us for a churchwide BBQ on the Land Building lawn where we will celebrate SCAPC's 105th anniversary! We'll enjoy BBQ prepared by Chef Matt McCann, games, and a memory display.

SCAPC Centennial Tervis Mugs

Decorated with our 105th anniversary logo, these Tervis Tumbler mugs are lidded and sanctuary/chapel approved. Mugs cost $20 each and will be available after each worship service this Sunday. You can pay at scapc.org/mug or by cash or check (made out to “SCAPC” with “mug” in the memo). The proceeds benefit SCAPC community and global ministries. Limited stock available!

Memorialize Loved Ones this Sunday

This Sunday, November 2, at our All Saints recognition during worship, we will take time to rejoice in all people through the ages who have loved and served the Lord. It is a time to remind us that we are part of the great company of faithful witnesses. We will offer thanks for their perseverance and give glory for the lives of all believers.

As part of the recognition, members of this congregation who have died in the past year will be listed in the bulletin. We also invite you to submit additional names of other loved ones who have passed away in the past twelve months. Please submit names to be included to pierce@scapc.org by Thursday at 4 p.m.

Your Stewardship Dollars at Work!

See all the ministries your generosity supports in the video below! It is not too late to make your 2026 pledge. Budget meetings will begin next month, so we do ask that you pledge as soon as possible in order that your donation can best impact our ministry plans for next year.

Fall Food Bank Challenge!

Join us as we support the Jefferson Presbyterian Church Food Bank helping families make ends meet in this critical time of need. Please bring the your non-perishable food items to the bins in the Phifer Library by Wednesday Night Out on November 5. Choose the bin with your favorite season and we will announce the winning season at WNO! Each food item is worth a certain number of points:

  • 1-pound bags of pasta (not mac and cheese) - 5 points
  • canned protein (fish, chicken, ham, etc.) - 10 points
  • bags or boxes of cereal - 15 points

Items for RHINO Respite Room at Mo-Ranch

Can’t make our mission trip to Texas? Help us support the staff members at the Mo-Ranch Christian Conference Center in Hunt, Texas by providing items for a “Respite Room.” RHINO trip participants will be putting together a special space for Mo-Ranch staff members to relax, de-stress, and practice some self-care as they continue to rebuild their homes and communities following the July Flooding event. Items can be found on our Amazon wish-list (posted at scapc.org/relief) and can be shipped directly to Mo-Ranch.

Yak, Snack, & Read

The 40/50's Yak, Snack, & Read book club will meet on Tuesday, November 4 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Land Building. Join your fellow book lovers for snacks and discussion! Our book is Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. Prior reading is not required. Visit our 40/50's webpage for more upcoming events!

Challenger Class Retreat

The Challenger Class (4th and 5th graders) enjoyed their annual fall retreat at Tickfaw State Park last weekend. Their retreat theme was "Why Follow Jesus?" Shown here from left are Cal and Theo Carlisle, Quinn Smith, Julianne Wimbish, William Thomas, John Martin Roth, Beanie Breaux, and Wyn Ziegler.

Scottish Heritage

At Wednesday Night Out last week we enjoyed a Scottish celebration complete with dance lessons by Wendy Grubb! Then at Scottish Heritage Sunday we were regaled by bagpipers and drummers. During worship, we incorporated worship elements from our denomination's very beginnings. Guest preacher Rev. Dr. William H. Willimon of Duke University Divinity School led our services and an adult Sunday School class on the Reformation. The class recording can be heard on our Sunday School page.
