FREE RIDE
In an effort to encourage the use of public transportation, improve summer traffic jams, and reduce our region’s carbon emissions, Durango Transit will be free for all riders all summer long! From now through August 31, all Durango city-limits bus routes will be free of charge with service from 7 am to 9 pm seven days a week. Each bus is ADA-accessible and equipped with bicycle racks. You can find detailed route maps and rider information at DurangoTransit.com.
BIGGEST 4TH EVER
Durango is gearing up for our biggest and best 4th of July celebration yet! Over 25 events are planned from Saturday July 1 to Tuesday July 4. Make sure to check out A Taste of Independence: A Celebration of Durango’s Independent Food Trucks. Taking place on Saturday July 1 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, multiple food trucks will be on site, and you’ll want to stick around for the pie eating contest! Find all the details on all the events at Durango.org/Events/Annual-Events/Summer/July-4th-Salute-to-America. Durango’s 4th of July Celebration is brought to you by planning partners City of Durango, BID, Durango Chamber of Commerce, Visit Durango, and La Plata County Fairgrounds and Events Center.
DESTINATION ADVANCEMENT GRANT
Thanks to funding from the City of Durango and La Plata County lodger’s tax, Visit Durango is offering a grant opportunity for projects and organizations that enhance both our visitor and resident experiences while promoting climate resiliency. Existing and developing organizations are invited to apply for funding across a variety of categories that include enhancing hospitality workers’ quality of life and economic opportunities, supporting or enhancing ongoing City of Durango or La Plata County sustainability initiatives and best practices, promoting DEI, and more. Applications are being accepted through June 16. To learn more and see if your organization qualifies to apply, click through to The Destination Advancement Grant.
ARE YOU IN THE BOOK?
One of Durango’s most lucrative advertising opportunities is back: sales are now live to reserve your space in the 2024 Be Local Coupon Book. More than a coupon, the Be Local Coupon Book allows you to tell your business’ story while reaching thousands of residents and visitors alike, all with tangible ROI. Reservations for space are being accepted through August 1. Learn more and view options at Local-First.org/Coupon-Book.
1.16M ‘WELCOMES’
Did you know that BID has been a partner in the Downtown Durango Welcome Center since it opened at 8th and Main Avenue in October of 2012? Alongside the City of Durango, Visit Durango and Fort Lewis College, BID helped build out the facility that features friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean public restrooms, water bottle refilling, tons of area info, and a refuge from the unpredictable San Juan Mountain weather. Since it opened, The Durango Welcome Center has welcomed over 1.16 million people through its doors. For you stat nerds out there, that’s a monthly average of 9,000 people and a daily average of 300.
