Legends of LIC - "A City of Good Fortune and Prosperity."

By Bob Singleton, Executive Director, Greater Astoria Historical Society

"'Drawn from all corners of the globe, immigrant groups come to America with dreams of new opportunities and the drive to achieve them. As we celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year, let’s take a moment to reflect on its significance for the East Asian community in Long Island City.

While popular culture often associates them with the California gold fields and laundries, their contributions extended far beyond these roles. They engaged in a wide variety of endeavors, blending their new environment with cherished traditions from their homeland. One remarkable example was their effort to cultivate traditional foods thousands of miles away from their native lands, preserving a vital connection to their culture while adapting to life in America." Read On Here
