Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable

Thank you for joining us!

The 29th Annual Barnegat Bay Environmental Educators Roundtable (BBEERT) on Wednesday, April 22, was a tremendous success, bringing together educators, partners, and environmental professionals from across the watershed for a day of learning, connection, and inspiration. Attendees enjoyed a wide variety of engaging workshops and field experiences—both indoors and out—covering topics that support and energize environmental education in our region. The day was capped off with a truly inspiring Keynote by Dr. Dane Ward that honored Earth Day pioneers and left participants feeling motivated and optimistic about the important work ahead.

From the vibrant exhibitor displays, the delicious shared meal, to the collaborative spirit shared throughout the event, this year’s Roundtable highlighted the strength and passion of our environmental education community, as we celebrated Earth Day together. Staff Trained on Prescribed Burns

Last month, South Jersey Soil District staff attended a joint training hosted by NRCS and the NJ Forest Fire Service to learn the science and ecology behind prescribed burning (controlled burning) and how it can be incorporated into conservation planning. Kristin Adams, Conservation Specialist for OCSCD and Riley Blankenship, Agricultural Conservation Specialist for DACD attended the training, and even got to try their hand at burning.

Lakewood Township Stormwater Basin Retrofit Project Completed

The Lakewood Township Stormwater Basin Retrofit Project has reached a final milestone with the installation of seven educational signs at retrofitted basins throughout the township. This multi-phase project transformed 10 traditional stormwater basins into more effective, environmentally beneficial systems that improve water quality, reduce pollutants, and support native habitat. With the final addition of interpretive signage, residents can now learn how these basins function and why they matter. This collaborative effort highlights the power of partnership in creating lasting environmental and community benefits.
