Justin's AV Career Insights Intrigue Students at Hope Hall School
On Friday, May 5, Justin Cheshire presented insights on a career in the world of AV to high school students at Hope Hall School in Gates.
Hope Hall School is a private, non-sectarian, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit school with a unique learning model designed for students who learn differently and who consistently experience frustration in the traditional classroom setting.
"When I was young, and my father saw what was happening at Kodak, he started Cheshire AV. Honestly, if he hadn't brought me into the business, I would never have known about the world of AV as a career. I don't think many kids today are aware of it as a possible career option when they have an interest in sound and video."
Justin shared his experience working in AV, speaking about the fact that there is really no "typical day," because there's such variety in the job. He talked about the many places to which he's had a chance to travel as a result of his career choice, and the fact that he gets to work with a lot of different types of people, technology and equipment.
He also spoke about the path to becoming an AV Engineer, the education students might want to pursue to get into the field, and the steps, internally, an employee takes to rise in the ranks at Cheshire.
The students were very engaged with the presentation, and who knows how soon a Hope Hall alumni might end up being a new Cheshire AV employee?
P.S. If you're an avid golfer, Hope Hall is holding their High Hopes Golf Tournament at the end of July at The Links at Greystone. Although the entire Monday field is sold out, they're booking on Sunday, July 30, if you're interested. Justin and Chuck have both attended, and they can tell you from experience that they had a ball (pun intended!). All proceeds from the tournament go to support the education of Hope Hall's students.
