Dear Saint Rose Families,
Saint Rose has five charisms that we use to guide our school and decision making process. They are: Catholic Faith, Servant Leadership, Compassionate Community, Academic Excellence and Moral Virtue.
Moral virtue can often be hard to describe. Our handbook summary of these charisms, written by Monsignor Borger in 2015, states that moral virtue. . . .
is a habitual and firm disposition to do good. Moral virtue is the main source for a good and happy life, whether for the community, a family, or each individual. The virtues are acquired by education, by deliberate acts, and by perseverance and discipline. As the source of all good, God helps us grow in virtue through the power of his Holy Spirit. At Saint Rose, we seek to promote, model, and coach this growth in virtue in imitation of Jesus Himself-helping each person to grow in character and to set out on a path to a happy life.
To better support our parents and students in the pursuit of happiness and moral virtue, the Saint Rose School Advisory Council is hosting presentations on the impact of social media on our young people. Last evening, Mrs. Mona Al-Hayani shared her information on human trafficking in the Toledo area. Human trafficking takes many different forms but it overwhelmingly uses adolescents and begins online through social media. It was an informative and concerning presentation. Next week Dr. Julia Burrow will share her findings and how families can best navigate social media and technology. Attending one of these meetings is mandatory for families in grades 4-8, although all parents are welcome to attend.
I am thankful that our families have this opportunity to learn how to better navigate the challenging world of social media.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bryon Borgelt
