Dean McCabe: SBT is embracing the AI frontier

The conversation surrounding Artificial Intelligence often leans toward apprehension, specifically regarding the displacement of traditional roles. However, at the School of Business and Technology, we view AI not as a replacement for human talent, but as a powerful catalyst for innovation and a "co-pilot" for the next generation of leaders. The true promise of AI lies in its ability to augment human creativity, streamline complex data analysis, and free our graduates to focus on high-level strategic thinking. By embracing these tools, we are not just preparing students for the current market; we are empowering them to define the future of industry where human intuition and machine intelligence work in tandem.

Our commitment to our students’ success is rooted in an educational model that actively integrates AI into the academic journey. We believe that professional excellence in the modern era requires a deep understanding of the ethical and responsible use of these technologies. It is not enough to simply use AI; our students must lead the way in navigating the complexities of data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the societal implications of automation. A prime example of this commitment in action is our upcoming Prompt-a-Thon with Microsoft on April 17 and 24 (see below for details). This event provides a high-impact, experiential environment where students can master the art of prompt engineering while grappling with real-world challenges, ensuring they enter their careers as responsible, AI-fluent innovators ready to lead with integrity.

Tewari Talks!

In the School of Business and Technology, growth shows up in many ways, often through the small, consistent steps that build toward something bigger. This past month highlighted just how diverse those journeys can be. The Sigma Beta Delta induction ceremony brought together a group of students whose individual experiences and backgrounds are all unique, yet they are united by a shared culture of hard work and a common drive toward their professional goals.

Success isn’t defined by one path. It’s built through a mix of academic achievement, hands-on involvement, and opportunities to step outside your comfort zone. That same spirit carries into opportunities like the upcoming Microsoft Prompt-a-Thon, where students will collaborate, problem-solve, and gain real-world experience using tools like generative AI.

Whether it’s through an honor society, a campus job, a competition, or a workshop, these moments all serve as building blocks. As the semester continues, it’s worth asking how you are choosing to grow? Because in the end, it’s not just about where you’re going, but the experiences that shape how you get there.

SBT Student Workers' Highlights!

Laina Pizzi, an SBT Office Associate, recently took her talents to Florida for a cheer competition, highlighting the balance of academics and personal passion that defines the SBT student experience.

Jack Trac, another SBT Office Associate, was recently inducted into the Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) honor society. Tri-Beta recognizes biology students with strong academic performance and a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.

Recap: Sigma Beta Delta 26'

The Sigma Beta Delta induction ceremony recognized a group of outstanding SBT students for their academic achievement and dedication to personal and professional growth. As the International Honor Society in Business, Sigma Beta Delta highlights students who rank in the top 20% of their class and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies.

This year’s ceremony celebrated the 2026 inductees, including Lindsey Barfield, Ellery Campbell, Jeanette Collini, Victor Daigneault, Joshua Diiorio, Marissa DiPierro, Catia Fernandes, Jesse Galassi, Logan Gibbons, Coriann Hoag, Nicolas Jacobs, Peter Jurovich, Anna Kahl, Lorelei Kellum, Amanda Kieffer, Katherine Kiely, Lucas Leander, Alyssa Mendez, Kathleen Miranda, Nicholas Newman, Lucas Pasternak, Jesus Pinto Gutierrez, Laina Pizzi, Christopher Rochefort, Blake Rothstein, Amber Scott, Felipe Simon, Daniel Sims, Peter Sullivan, and Cole Weinger. Max Cotton, Samantha Conti, and Tyenise Morton who were all inducted last year helped officiate the ceremony.

The event not only celebrated academic success but also emphasized the values behind Sigma Beta Delta: wisdom, honor, and the pursuit of meaningful goals. It served as a proud moment for inductees, faculty, families and friends.

From Curry to the Pros!

Within the School of Business and Technology, 43% of students are student-athletes a testament to the strong connection between academics and athletics. Several men’s ice hockey players exemplify this balance, continuing their careers beyond the collegiate level as alumni move on to professional ranks and current student-athletes prepare to follow in their footsteps.

Among them, Killian Rowlee, an accounting major at Curry College, has already taken a major step toward the next level after signing with the Evansville Thunderbolts of the Southern Professional Hockey League. Still completing his undergraduate degree, Rowlee has developed into a key contributor for the Colonels, steadily improving each season and now turning that success into a professional opportunity. Defenseman Billy Roche is another standout success story, having moved on to the SPHL as well, competing with teams such as the Knoxville Ice Bears, where he has appeared in over 100 professional games.

The Curry hockey network extends far beyond the rink, thanks in large part to faculty members like Dr. Debra Petrizzo, who remains deeply connected with former players. Dr. Petrizzo recently traveled to Knoxville to watch four former Curry men’s ice hockey players compete in the SPHL. She also made a trip to Watertown, New York, to support alumni Reid Cooper and Nicolas Favaro, who are currently playing in the Empire Division of the FPHL.

Dr. Petrizzo continues to maintain strong relationships with Curry hockey alumni, emphasizing the importance of connection even after graduation. Her dedication goes beyond athletics, as she has helped many former players transition into successful careers with companies such as KPMG, Clean Harbors, and Deloitte. We've profiled one such success story before. She remains in close contact with her former students, supporting them both professionally and personally, and has even received invitations to visit alumni overseas in Romania.

Reflecting on her experience, Dr. Petrizzo shared, “After nine years of going to watch men’s ice hockey and getting to know them as well as their parents, it’s like my hockey family.”

Together, these athletes and mentors highlight the lasting impact of Curry College hockey, where relationships, career development, and success continue long after players leave the ice.

MBA Throughout the Years!

As the end of the semester grows closer and graduation is slowly but surely approaching, it’s time for many to start thinking about post grad plans. For those who want to continue their education journey, we have flourishing Master’s programs right here at Curry!

The MBA program started back in 2005 and has evolved over the years to adapt to the changing demands of the business world. In the early days of the program, Dr. Fabrizio and other faculty led students on trips to India, China, Germany, Poland and more! On these capstone trips, students would work with global partner organizations, gaining real, hands-on business experience while focusing on areas like global strategy, finance, management, and marketing.

Over the years and working through multiple speed bumps like Covid, the program has changed its shape to match the lifestyles of the many different types of students who want to continue their education at Curry. Students are able to gain the full scope of knowledge they need for the business world in a much more accessible program. Faculty bring real industry experience into the classroom by teaching through case studies, group work, and hands-on projects that mirror real business challenges.

The current MBA program is offered online or in person, and the MSA program is online only. Courses can be completed in just 1-2 years, and current Curry students get 20% off tuition! The application fee is waived, and enrollment is rolling, so it’s never too late to get started!
