Staff Updates at Saint Mark's

Dear Friends,

I am writing to share a few updates regarding staff positions. Please join me in supporting these persons in their ministries for which we are very grateful.

Emily Meeks begins her work as Cathedral Special Projects Coordinator

As we announced in late April, Emily Meeks has now joined the staff in a part-time role, serving as Special Projects Coordinator. She is also interim staff support for the 20s/30s ministry. Grant writing will be part of her scope in special projects, and I am delighted to say that Emily is remarkably skilled in this area and is already engaged in several applications for grants, ranging from carbon reduction initiatives to campus development study grants to seed grants to explore innovative ways of being in community and reaching out to the broader community. We will share more good news in the coming weeks regarding these as they unfold, but for now, please join me in welcoming Emily to her new role.

Deacon Emily Austin on Leave of Absence

In May of this year, Deacon Emily Austin asked me for an extended leave of absence as she discerns several aspects of diaconal and personal vocation. Guided by Bishop Skelton, this leave is anticipated to stretch several months which is why we’ve not seen her on Sunday mornings for some time. She has my whole-hearted support for this, and she and I continue to meet periodically as she navigates this discernment. Emily asks for our prayers in it all. Deacon Earl Grout continues to serve in the liturgies two Sundays per month, and the assisting priests will continue backfilling liturgical duties on Sundays when there is no deacon serving. Please hold Emily in your prayers.

Linzi Stahlecker to continue on staff after curacy ends

I am delighted to share that The Rev. Linzi Stahlecker has accepted my invitation to continue on the cathedral staff after her curacy training ends in mid-January. She brings many gifts to her role as priest and pastor here, and we are grateful for her ministry among us. We will share more later in the year about her particular focus areas as she transitions to her new role as a canon in January, but we are glad to share this good news now with the cathedral community.

I am very grateful for the ministries of these three wonderful people, and for all the staff and clergy, and I trust you will share your expressions of blessings and best wishes for them all.

Peace,

The Very Reverend Steven L. Thomason
Dean and Rector
