February is Black History Month!
Check out the UCSF Multicultural Resource Center events page for events and backgrounds.
There is so much activity this month. On January 30th, BCH held its Leadership Retreat for FY 26.
UCSF School of Medicine Leadership Retreat will be held this week on February 6th and 7th and will focus on:
- Defining how we want the school to be known and where to focus our strategic efforts for the next five years.
- Identifying systems and structures we must change or add to ensure we achieve our goals.
- Prioritizing strategies to make UCSF a university home to people with diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
I hope you all saw some key updates in your inboxes:
- The UCSF Climate Survey is due February 23rd
-
Federal Updates from Vice Chancellor of Research Hal Collard
- Request from leadership to complete annual mandatory cyber security training
- Updates from Erin Gore, Nicholas Holmes, and Talmadge King about the 5700 MLK building management (more info below)
- BCH Human Resource updates and Town Halls
I also want to turn your attention to upcoming events in March -- International Women’s Day, observed March 3-7, and Doctor’s Day, March 28. We will have a watch party to recognize the exceptional physicians. More info below.
Be well,
Kelley

COMMUNICATION
Last month, we aligned BCH Oakland’s clinical communication platforms with the rest of UCSF Health. Personal and service pagers are now being forwarded to Voalte, and we will be turning off Spok Mobile soon. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to return your physical pagers to the operators (Main Hospital 2nd floor near the Medical Staff lounge). Trauma/code and ambulatory staff physical pagers remain active and are not currently being forwarded to Voalte.
All inpatient clinical communication now occurs primarily through Voalte (optional for outpatient providers). When covering an inpatient service, every provider must consistently log into their Voalte Role/Units. This log-in process is critical to ensure that on-service providers are reachable. Our goal is to have all East Bay on-call roles covered >90% of the time, which has been achieved by our colleagues in the West Bay (both pediatrics and adult services).
If you or anyone in your division has any questions about how to use Voalte, please refer to the Voalte tip sheet for BCH Oakland Providers or contact Mike Lang and Jason Jagodzinski.
We are now using the West Bay’s version of Amcom, which can be used as a backup to Voalte for reaching a provider who is on call. Please refer to the Amcom tip sheet for East Bay users for more information.
If your pager is not forwarding to Voalte or you are encountering any technical issues, please submit a ticket with the UCSF Help Desk by calling 415-514-4100 or navigating to https://help.ucsf.edu (use the Get IT Help button).

Release of the UCSF Changemaker Series | |
|
The UCSF Changemaker Series, created by Professor of Medicine Hilary Seligman, MD, MAS, is a four-part video series that seeks to build the capacity of UCSF researchers to generate scientific evidence that is responsive to the needs of real-world decision-makers. Each 10-15 minute video highlights a UCSF researcher in conversation with an interdisciplinary panel of non-academic experts discussing how investigators at all stages of their careers can more meaningfully inform policies, systems, and structures in order to create social or policy change.
