Hello First Presbyterian Church,
When I first started thinking about what I would write to you all today, the day after what many have been calling the most important mid-term elections in at least my lifetime, I certainly expected to be dealing with much more uncertainty about their outcomes. Now that the dust has settled a little more quickly than perhaps most of us anticipated, I am grateful for all the people who worked long hours as poll workers and in our county and state election offices to ensure that every vote was counted and that the integrity of our elections has been upheld.
So today, whether you are elated and more hopeful than you have felt in a long time or you are disappointed and perhaps even a little bit fearful, my prayer for us remains the same - that we, as the Body of Christ and as this community of FPC Richardson, remain united, not in our political ideologies or parties, but in our identity in Christ. That we treat others with dignity and respect, remembering that even our worst enemy bears the image of God. I pray that as citizens of this state and nation, we may disagree on policy, but never on our shared humanity.
Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Jesus Christ is Lord! Our work remains the same regardless of whom we voted for: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. May it be so to the glory of God, this day and every day!
Pastor Sarah
