The University City Trumpet

"If what they say is true, potential wrongoing abounds."

Federal District Court Judge Paul S. Diamond, commenting on evidence presented that Democratic District Attorney Larry Krasner's attorneys have taken actions in a post-conviction case that could amount to perjury, conspiracy or obstruction of justice. As reported in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

PHILLYGOP.COM WEBSITE REMOVES CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE: You should check out the Republican City Committee's website, PhillyGOP.com. There is some good information there that Philadelphia Republicans can use. That being said, if you want to know anything about our Congressional candidates, you'll have to go elsewhere. All of the other candidates are there, but none for Congress. In the 3rd Congressional District, unfortunately, even though we tried to get a candidate on the ballot with nomination petitions and again with a write-in campaign, we were not successful. Not so for the 2nd District, where Jessica Arriaga was on the ballot and was nominated by the Republican voters in the primary. Similarly in the 5th District, Nick Manganaro has been nominated but is missing from the website.

Our understanding is that Jessica was on the website but the Chairman of Republican City Committee, Vince Fenerty (pictured above), had some sort of beef with her so he ordered her taken down. Nobody seems to remember Nick ever being there.

The Republican City Committee does not belong to its Chairman. It belongs to the Republican voters of Philadelphia. They nominated Jessica and Nick. The city party has a responsibility to support them. They are both working hard. They are sacrificing their time to perform an important job for our city - presenting the voters with an alternative. This comes on the heels of Mr. Fenerty's supporting Democratic judges for retention last year, leaving former Republican City Councilman and Mayoral candidate David Oh off the Republican sample ballots in the primary election of 2023 and not supporting now Republican Joe Picozzi in his race for State Senate in 2024. Joe won even with Mr. Fenerty working against him.

Well, the editorial staff at The University City Trumpet opposed the Democratic judges last year and supported both David Oh and Joe Picozzi. And this year we are supporting Jessica and Nick. Learn more about each of them at JessForCongress.com and Manganaro4Congress.net. Help them. Vote for them.

WE WON! You may recall that after 89 years, the Philadelphia Board of Elections changed the way that Committeepeople were elected. It used to be that the one with the most votes won. Seems simple. Now the one with the most votes wins, unless you are running a write-in campaign. If that is the case, you need at least 10 votes to win. Yes, if you do the math, someone with 1 vote could win if they were on the ballot and someone with 9 votes could lose in a write-in effort. No, it doesn't make sense to us either.

More importantly, it hurts the Republican Party. There are 3,406 committeeperson positions in Philadelphia. The Democrats have a lot of vacancies, but absent our lawsuit only 302 Republican committeeperson positions will be filled. That's less than 9%, probably worse than any party organization on either the Republican or Democratic side in any of Pennsylvania's 67 counties have done in history. And Republican City Committee intervened against the suit. Why would the Republican Party of Philadelphia want to restrict the growth of the Republican Party in Philadelphia? Well, you'll have to ask its chairman.

After our victory both the Board of Elections and Republican City Committee appealed. Seriously. Well, we have cross-appealed and hope to expand our win and help grow the Republican Party.
