Greetings!

It might still be 90 degrees outside, but we have all successfully navigated the first month of the new school year. The alarm clocks are set, carpools are moving, buses are rolling, and hopefully everyone has figured out where they’re supposed to be and when. With the first-day jitters behind us, September gives us a chance to settle into a rhythm and focus on the year ahead.

There is a lot happening across APS and here in District 3, so grab something cold to drink (we’re still a long way from sweater weather) and read on for a few updates:

  • Board Meeting on Tuesday, September 1 at 2:30 pm. Staff will provide a progress update on the strategic plan, APS Forward, and a financial report. The agenda is here and you can stream the meeting live here.
  • Building a Human-Centered AI Policy. The aim of this policy is to keep learning at the center while protecting the essential role of educators in guiding instruction. It will establish clear expectations for responsible AI use, protect student privacy and safety, and help prepare students with the skills they will need. More detail here.
  • Accelerated Literacy Model (ALM) Pilot Launched. Grounded in the science of reading, the ALM provides extended literacy blocks, high-quality reading instruction, targeted early interventions, and additional classroom staffing in pre-K through third grade. More detail here.

Results Show Real Progress Across APS

The 2025-26 Georgia Milestones results were recently released, and APS saw widespread gains across all three tested subject areas: math, social studies, and science. For more detailed results, please see last month's Board report here. English Language Arts results will be released by the state later in the semester.
