Sunday Morning Bible Study

9:00am in Eastminster Room

This week's verses are Mark 11:27-33

The Chief Priests ask, "By what authority do you do this?" And Jesus replied, "Well... let me tell YOU...maybe."

Any questions about Sunday Bible Study, please get in touch with Mat at mat.worley@gmail.com. If you don't see someone right at 9:00am, someone will be there in a few minutes.

From the Worship Committee

The committee met on Monday, May 4, in Russell Hall at 5:30pm. We normally meet by Zoom, but we occasionally meet in person to allow for more brainstorming and discussion. This month, we looked at the upcoming calendar for the end of the spring services and summer, including the May 31 children’s music program, youth emphasis (with youth serving as worship assistants), and the June 7 recognition service with lots of music. The summer services will be in the sanctuary this year and begin on June 7 as well.

Updates were given on the piano/organ console move, which will take place soon, and on a possible outside worship service with afternoon activities in late July, with details still being planned. (There may or may not be food trucks!)

We discussed recent attendance numbers, ongoing approaches for making communion flow easily and effectively, and updating the information page for ushers.

We meet on the 1st Monday of every month at 5:30pm, usually by Zoom, so if you are interested in attending, you are most welcome! We use the Tuesday Bible Study link, but just to be sure, email me in advance for the information and we can Zoom you in as well.

We are honored and blessed to do our part to make our worship at Westminster meaningful.

New Member Class Offered

The spring new member class is happening on May 17 and May 31, following worship/fellowship at 11:30am. Pastor Kelly leads the class, where you will learn more about being Presbyterian, Westminster, and the leadership and committee/activity opportunities. We hope many of you will consider joining this meaningful and fun class. Please email office@salemwestpres.org or contact Katie Nelson at nelsonkatieallstar@gmail.com to sign up or for more information.

Table of Plenty

Our next “3rd TOP SUNDAY” is May 17th. Please come prepared and bring those cans and packages of food to lend a helping hand to our hungry neighbors. As expected, the number of families in need of food continues to rise and it is our privilege to support them during this difficult time. So, as you go grocery shopping, please keep these families in mind. Their gratitude is truly heartfelt.

Red Cross Blood Drive

Hi Folks,

Some of you may have been disappointed that all the whole-blood appointments were filled for the May 11 American Red Cross blood drive. I have good news. Our Red Cross area coordinator reallocated some of the less popular (although much-needed) Double Red appointments to be whole blood instead.

There are now whole-blood appointments available at 1:00 pm, 3:30 pm, and 4:30 pm for the May 11 drive. Unfortunately, there is only ONE appointment in each of those timeslots, so call Bill Nelson at (503) 576-1278 to reserve your time! 🩸

Kind Regards,

Bill

Berry Season Is Here!

Berry season has arrived. If you purchase berries or veggies that come in green paper containers, please recycle them at church. If you buy six boxes and get the crate they come in, we would love crates. Bring the containers on Sunday and leave them in the Narthex. The boxes are reused on a farm. Last year, the farm donated over 2000 pounds of produce to local food banks. Your donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to the congregation for supporting the Earth Care Electronics Recycling project, organized by Salem Environmental Faith Network, by keeping 362 pounds of items out of the landfill for repurposing and recycling.

You are encouraged to let Social Justice know if you have pound reports from your own delivery, and keep up the good work by continuing to make donations.
