New Planning and Development Services Department Announced

In November 2025, Wake County Water Quality transitioned into the newly formed Planning and Development Services (PDS) Department. Under this new structure, PDS will assume responsibility for the Water Quality division, which will be renamed Watershed Management. PDS will continue managing building inspections and permitting, as well as planning – bringing key services related to growth and infrastructure under one department. This transition aligns with Wake County's long-term organizational goals and is an opportunity to improve efficiency, strengthen coordination and better serve our residents.

The reorganization is a phased transition that began in November and will continue through July.
