September 2024

Dear Friend,

There's a lot going on in September! First, celebrate CA Biodiversity Day with us at our native plant Growing Space nursery next Saturday Sept. 7th. Then in the middle of the month, staff member Bequi will be giving a talk on Community Science at the Sierra Club's social event on Wed. Sept. 18th. Finally, the largest environmental cleanup in CA is happening on Sat. Sept. 21st with the Bolsa Chica Stewards during CA Coastal Cleanup Day.

All these events are free and open to the public! You can now even add them to your own digital calendar from our events calendar on our website, so you won't forget. Hope to you see at one or all the Bolsa Chica Land Trust special events this month!

Until next time, see you on the trails.

CA Biodiversity Day 2024

CA Biodiversity Day is Sept. 7th!

Learn how Bolsa Chica Land Trust is Building Biodiversity from the Ground Up at our Native Plant Growing Space. We will take you through soil health, seed processing, habitat evaluation and seeing the big picture of habitat restoration with presentations and hands-on activities. Also learn about community science and how you can be involved at a level you feel comfortable with. Walk away with knowledge and a snazzy mini journal to record your observations or keep track of your daily routine.

When: Sat. Sept. 7th from 10am- 1pm

Where: Bolsa Chica Land Trust's Growing Space

September's Bird of the Month: Say's Phoebe

This handsome flycatcher lives on a diet of insects. At Bolsa Chica it can be seen most often up on the mesa. Like other flycatchers it sometimes shows a crest. Say’s Phoebe can be identified by its cinnamon underparts, gray-brown upperparts, and long black tail. This species inhabits much of western North America and northern Mexico.

7.5” long; 13” wingspan; 0.74 oz.

  • Do not feed the animals.
  • Do not litter. Please pack out your trash, including food scraps.
  • No bikes or ebikes.
  • No dogs.
  • No drones.
  • Enjoy being with nature!
  • If you see any BCLT Stewards working along the trail, say hi! We are happy to answer any questions.
