Dear friends,
As we enter Sukkot, I find myself reflecting on how this holiday mirrors the work we do together in the Intracontinental Region. The sukkah is intentionally open—its walls temporary, its roof incomplete—yet it becomes a place of profound strength because of the people who gather inside it. That is our region. That is our Sisterhood.
This year, I had the joy of spending time in my son Josh’s sukkah. Watching him build it—carefully placing each panel, adjusting the schach, making sure there was just the right amount of sky peeking through—reminded me how Sukkot invites us to create sacred spaces with our own hands. Sitting inside, surrounded by family, I felt the beauty of a structure that is both fragile and deeply grounding. It was a moment of connection, of gratitude, and of seeing the next generation embrace the traditions that shaped me.
Sukkot teaches us that holiness is created not through permanence, but through presence. When we show up for one another, when we create spaces of welcome, when we bring our unique voices together, we build something lasting even within temporary structures.
The Four Species remind us that our diversity is our blessing. Each of us brings different experiences, talents, and perspectives, and our region thrives because we hold them together. This is the heart of Women’s League: empowering women, strengthening Jewish life, and building community across every distance.
As your president, I am grateful for the leadership, creativity, and generosity that flow through our Sisterhoods. You inspire me every day. You remind me why this work matters and why our connections—across cities, congregations, and generations—are so essential.
May your sukkah be filled with joy, with learning, and with the warmth of those you love. May this season bring peace to your homes and strength to our shared work. And may we continue, together, to build structures of compassion, leadership, and Jewish life that endure long after the festival ends.
Wishing you and your families a chag Sukkot sameach.
With gratitude and joy,
Meryl
