Two people with confused and angry expressions

15 “If your brother or sister sins against you,[a] go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If you are listened to, you have regained that one. 16 But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If that person refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church, and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”

Welcome to September! It's a month of change and, believe it or not, pumpkin spice lattes. It's also the month we begin a new sermon series, Becoming a Shalom People.

Shalom is more than peace as the absence of conflict. It is God’s vision of wholeness, which includes restored relationships, wounds tended, truth spoken, mercy practiced, comparison released, and faith embodied.

Jesus does not simply invite us to believe in shalom. He teaches us how to become people through whom shalom enters the world.

The series will move through four practices of a whole and healthy community:

  1. Tell the truth with love.
  2. Extend the mercy we have received.
  3. Release comparison and celebrate grace.
  4. Align our actions with what we profess.

There will only be one worship service this Sunday. It will be at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary. Sunday school classes will not meet this week. Tell everyone!

Wade Hall & Church Office cleaning

There has been a slight adjustment to the cleaning schedule. Wade Hall and the Church Offices will be CLOSED ALL DAY ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, for floor cleaning and waxing.

World Communion Sunday

We're looking for people who speak different languages to participate in the Sunday worship service that celebrates the unity of Christians worldwide through the shared practice of Holy Communion.

World Communion Sunday is October 4th. If you'd like more information. or you're interested in being part of the service, email us!

Supporting Wellroot Family Services

We had a strong start to our partnership with Wellroot Family Services last Sunday. We would love to keep that momentum going this week!

You're invited you to bring individually packaged snack items to the table in the hallway between the Chapel and the Sanctuary.

Suggested donations include:

  • Individually packaged crackers
  • Granola or breakfast bars
  • Fruit snacks
  • Applesauce or fruit cups
  • Pretzels
  • Individual packages of cookies
  • Shelf-stable pudding cups
  • Individual packages of nuts or trail mix
  • Juice boxes or other small, shelf-stable drinks

Then on Sunday, September 20, we’ll come together between and after worship services to assemble the donated items into snack bags.

The idea is simple: bring what you can, and help us pack what we collect. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called not only to worship together, but to put our faith into action by caring for our neighbors. Each bag will be a tangible expression of care and a reminder that our discipleship extends beyond the walls of the church.

THE LEGACY CAMPAIGN

Our Legacy Campaign—a focused $150,000 campaign has been launched to replace our Sanctuary Sound System, Secure our Church Campus with dependable key-card access, and restore our Fifth Street Historic Red Doors.

This is not simply about equipment, locks, or wood. It is about ministry: making sure every word, prayer, and song can be heard; making our active campus safer and easier to manage; and preserving the doors that have welcomed generations with the promise, “Welcome Home.”

Between now and the last Sunday in October, we will tell the story of each need and invite every household to take part. Thank you in advance, together we will preserve our legacy, protect our church home, and prepare our ministry for generations to come.

Heartfelt Appreciation

Someone important to Saint Mark's history and legacy thought he was simply showing up for dinner, fellowship, and another example of the talented membership at Saint Mark when he attended the production of Miracle on Peachtree last month. What he didn't know was that he was going to be honored with a Frabel Heart award that night for the contributions he's made. Dr. Mike Cordle is certainly worthy of the praise. He has this message to share with everyone:

I have long known and shared that Saint Mark was the highlight of my fifty plus years of ministry. YOU ARE A SPECIAL PEOPLE! After all these years I still meet people who were part of the Saint Mark family or who know of Saint Mark and speak of it with reverence and respect. It has long been my high honor to have been associated with YOU, a dynamic, inclusive, and caring congregation.

I came to the 150th Anniversary celebration to be with my church friends at certainly a special time. However, I had no idea you would be honoring me Saturday evening in such a gracious way. I was biting my lip and my eyes were full of tears when you then presented me with the lovely Frabel, (remembering Hans was an active member at Saint Mark) and the framed poster/invitation for Miracle on Peachtree.

May I again thank the staff and the multitude of creative volunteers who made Saturday evening possible. It will forever remain a joyful experience in my heart, mind, and soul. Also, please remember that as you so clearly expressed your love and appreciation, I will continue beyond my present 80 years to always cherish my time with you and look gladly for the next opportunity of our being together in

GRACE.

In God’s and your service,

Dr. Mike

Dr. Cordle, if you're reading this, thank you!
