Dear New London,

The crisis of homelessness in New London County is big and it's growing. Our work is more challenging, and more expensive than ever. The New London Homeless Hospitality Center is this community's largest and most comprehensive adult emergency shelter, and we need your help.

Emergency shelter operations rely on the financial support of neighbors - like you. We offer not only up to 40 shelter beds available for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, but we also provide support, including funds to solve a guest’s financial problem and get them toward home; making room for someone who is on our waiting list and staying in unsuitable conditions.

Michael began experiencing homelessness five years ago while facing significant heart problems that resulted in a transplant. He couldn't work, so housing became unstable and then disappeared completely during this time. He utilized just about every service or program that NLHHC has to offer. "I have been given so much," Michael says.

He doesn't want to depend on anybody for anything, but he had no choice with such major health problems and no safety net. "I am so blessed that the Homeless Hospitality Center came through for me." As resourceful as Michael is, he credits all the staff for helping to manage his care, even when he was in the hospital for a year. "The people at HHC are best at being human," said Michael.

Michael is grateful for the support he receives, but it's just what we do for anyone when we have the resources. These resources would be far less without private support. Michael now has a home of his own. He goes to cardiac therapy every day and looks for work helping others.

The Homeless Hospitality Centers' continued ability to support people through homelessness quickly and permanently relies on the help of neighbors like you. With this appeal, we seek to raise 40% of our shelter's general operating budget in tax-deductible contributions from individuals, foundations, and businesses to continue to support our guests in these extremely trying times. That is why we are asking you to help make this possible with a donation today. Automatic monthly or quarterly recurring payments are a convenient way to make a big impact, but all gifts of any size have a significant positive effect on the lives of our guests.

Please help us continue to help our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness get out of this predicament quickly, by making a gift that is personally significant to you. Just click here today, call 860-439-1573 ext 321, click the QR code, below, or mail a check to NLHHC Development Office, 727 Bank Street, New London, CT 06320.

If you have given your full support to NLHHC for this year, thank you, from the bottom of all our hearts.

Sincerely,

Annah Perch
