Dear Archway Trivium Families,
We have had a severe upswing in late arrivals at school lately. I am writing to encourage our families to make the necessary adjustments to morning routines in ensure on-time arrival at school. The first thing I would like you to consider is the amount of time it takes your child to get packed up and out the door in the morning. Your child needs that same amount of time to unpack and get situated for the day once he or she arrives in the classroom. Our school day officially begins at 7:50 AM. Most children need at least 10 minutes to unpack. There is also traffic to consider. At the moment, the major traffic challenge is the traffic light on Bullard and Encanto, which can cause delays up to 10 minutes (however, there is not line once on campus). All these factors come together to indicate that drop-ff should happen at about 7:30 AM in order for the child to begin the day well. Tardiness is problematic for all the standard reasons (classroom disruption, anxiety in the child, extra work for teacher, etc.), but my big concern is ensuring that our scholars begin the day in a good mental and emotional state.
In a related matter, we have a number of families who are circumventing the established system for drop-off, which unnecessarily strains that system and, in some cases, creates potential safety concerns. Here is a list of some of things we can all do to help make our system safer and more efficient.
- Avoid Palm Lane (Granada) - The only cars that should be on that road are those exiting the school from the south and those parking on the road.
- If you have both Prep and Archway students to drop-off, use the Archway drop-off line, not the Prep line. Archway students require full supervision when unloading vehicles and that is not provided in the Prep line. This is a safety matter and is therefore, not negotiable.
- If you or your Prep driver is walking your Archway child onto campus, use the public sidewalks on Bullard to cross at the Archway walker gate.
- Use Encanto eastbound. The right turn from Bullard is congested, but there are long pauses when the eastbound light is green. This is an opportunity to access the parking lot more efficiently.
Thank you for your continued support. I am confident that adhering to these principles will make our system more efficient, safe, and pleasant for everyone.
Heartily Devoted,
Clay Scott
