| | | 1) Israel, backed by the US militarily and diplomatically, has enacted a total siege on Gaza since October 8, 2023. Israel used the October, 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, which killed approximately 1,200 persons, to obliterate Gaza and starve the population into submission. In January, 2025, on the eve of his presidential inauguration, Donald Trump forced Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas. Humanitarian aid flowed into Gaza. But on March 2, Israel unilaterally abrogated the ceasefire, began bombing Gaza again and halted all aid deliveries to Gaza. Now, as Jan Egeland, secretary-general of the Norwegian Refugee, told Reuters on July 21, “our last tent, our last food parcel, our last relief items have been distributed. There is nothing left.” Given Israel’s blockade on food, potable water, medicines and medical supplies, fuel to run generators used by hospitals, water desalination plants, bakeries, ambulance services, “People in Gaza are neither dead nor alive, they are walking corpses.” (Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General, UN Relief and Workings Agency, aka UNRWA, July 24, 2025 Communique)
2) Gaza officials report 17,000 children in Gaza are severely malnourished. Over a hundred children have died of malnutrition. On the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) 85% of Gazans are in Stage 5: “an extreme deprivation of food.” People are collapsing in the street. Lazzarini reported on July 21, “No one is spared . . . Doctors, nurses, journalists and humanitarians are hungry. Many are now fainting due to hunger and exhaustion while performing their duties.”
3) Before May, UNRWA and other non-militarized humanitarian aid organizations, long experienced in distributing food in conflict zones, ran 400 aid sites around Gaza. Today there are four. Prior to May, Gazans were able to get some food from aid stations close to their homes. Without evidence, Israel claimed Hamas was diverting aid from these sites. Israel replaced the 400 aid sites with the US based Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s 4 sites, all far removed, many miles from where Gazans were doing the best they could living amongst the rubble. Not only are the GHF sites far removed from where Gazans are living, the sites are only open 8-11 minutes. Very few Gazans are able to return to their starving families with any kind of food. Israeli snipers and soldiers in tanks are firing on and killing the starving aid seekers. To date, Israeli forces and US mercenaries at the sites have killed over 1,000 Gazans who came to the sites seeking aid. Philippe Lazzarini called the 4 GHF sites, “Death traps.”
4) Israel is orchestrating a massive and deliberate starvation campaign against the Gazans. Alex de Waal, one of the world’s leading famine experts, recently told Al Jazeera, “I’ve been working on this topic for more than four decades, and there is no case since WW2 of starvation that is being so minutely designed and controlled. . . This is preventable starvation . . It is entirely man-made.” (“Famine Expert . .” Brett Wilkins, July 21, 2025, Common Dreams)
5) Gideon Levy, columnist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, wrote in those pages on July 20, 2025, that Israel is planning to first force what is left of the 2.2 Palestinians calling Gazan home into the massive concentration camp Israel is currently building in Rafah. From there, Israel is planning on deporting the Gazans to Ethiopia, Libya and Indonesia.
ACT NOW:
1) Americans for Justice in Palestine can connect you over the phone with your federal lawmakers; you can tell them to demand the US pressure Israel to allow into Gaza all needed humanitarian aid and to end Israel’s war on Gaza. Organizers have found calling is most effective.
Here’s the link for the AJP phone-in campaign
2) If you prefer to email your federal lawmakers, you can use the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) template, which you can edit, and USCPR will send the email to your federal lawmakers.
Here’s the link to the USCPR emailing action.
