Dear Cuba Township Residents,
Every election shapes our community's future. Elected officials' decisions affect our property taxes, public safety, schools, roads, parks, green space preservation, and the quality of services we rely on every day. Yet, too often, these important decisions are made by a relatively small percentage of eligible voters.
In Lake County's General Primary election in March, voter turnout was approximately 17% of registered voters. The County Clerk noted that turnout in local elections is typically around 14%, meaning a small number of residents determine outcomes that affect everyone. We can do better!
When more residents participate, election results better reflect the priorities and values of the entire community. Whether you lived in Cuba Township for decades or recently moved here, your voice deserves to be heard.

Why Your Vote Matters This Fall:
- Congressional races determine who represents our community in Washington and votes on federal funding, taxes, infrastructure, health care, and other national policies with local consequences.
- The Illinois gubernatorial race shapes statewide priorities, budgets, public safety, education, transportation, and programs that affect Cuba Township residents. The remaining constitutional executive offices of Illinois include the Attorney General, Secretary of State, Comptroller, and Treasurer, each elected to four-year terms.
- State legislative races directly affect our township. Cuba Township includes areas in Illinois Senate District 26 and Illinois House Districts 51 and 52.
Lake County voters will also decide whether to approve a 1% County School Facilities Sales Tax. If approved, the revenue could be used only for school facilities and eligible building bonds, school resource officers, and mental health professionals—not general school salaries, instructional materials, or other operating costs. The tax would apply to purchases in Lake County, including restaurant meals, gasoline, and general merchandise. Unprepared groceries, medications, vehicles, farm equipment, and many services would not be taxed. Please review the referendum carefully and make your voice heard on this important community decision.
Plan to vote and encourage your family and neighbors to join you. Let your voice be heard - vote!
Together, we can ensure that the future of our community reflects the voices of all who call Cuba Township home.
Sincerely,
Heidi Shannon
Cuba Township Clerk
