Whitman Town Hall Spring Easter Egg Hunt

This year's Spring Easter Egg Hunt at the Whitman Town Hall hosted by the Whitman Recreation Department was a raging success! Whitman residents came out for a day of easter festivities, such Art’s & Crafts, balloon animals by Joe The Ballon Guy, and face painting by Kaleigh Fortune. Once again the town showed out for a day of celebration and Easter fun!

Historical Tidbit:
Home Deliveries

Back in the early 1900’s going to the store was not a very common practice. Twice a week the “grocery man” would travel around town in the morning with his horse and wagon, visiting every home, and take orders for the “dry goods” that were needed. It would have been an item that the homeowner could not grow or raise themselves such as flour, coffee, tea, etc. Then that afternoon he would return to each home with their delivery.

There was also a gentleman from Middleboro who would came around with his wagon selling meat. He was known as the “Butcher” and usually came once a week. He would have a large draw on the back of the wagon where the meat was kept and would cut what you wanted from the meat he carried that day. He would also take an order if he didn’t have what you wanted.

I remember seeing the “Fish Vendor” come around to my Great Grandmother’s on a Friday morning selling his wares. She would come out to see what he had and make her selection. He would wrap it in white paper and tie it with string. Only now the deliveries were being conducted in small van like trucks, the horse and wagons were long gone.

The office in charge of resources and authority available to the Governor and executive department to advance climate change innovation, and resilience policies.
At the local level, South Shore Recycling Cooperative (SSRC) is a resource. The SSRC is a voluntary association of South Shore municipalities established in 1998. It helps its member municipalities improve their recycling programs, and reduce the quantity, toxicity and cost of disposal in a number of ways. Some include maintenance of solid waste programs, educating residents about waste management, and advocating for funding and regulations that minimize waste while maximizing recovery of useful materials. Stamping out the “R Word”
Whitman Hanson High School

From March 20th–24th, the Student Council and Best Buddies Club of Whitman-Hanson High School hosted an Inclusion Week. For the activity on March 23rd, students and staff had the opportunity to help stamp out the “R Word” at Whitman-Hanson and pledge to be inclusive in all that they do.
Hundreds of students and staff dipped their hands in paint and helped “stamp” out that word. The next part of their plan is to display the poster in one of the school’s lobbies to serve as a reminder that Whitman-Hanson is a place of acceptance and inclusion. Wonderful job, everyone. Keep up the good work!

Childhood, Children, Childlike.
This week I wallow in the memory of it. Being a child, being childlike, playing with my children, playing with neighborhood children. As the weather gets warmer I hear their joyful shouts, playing nearby, through my open window. What a gorgeous sound!

“Sweater, n. Garment worn by child when its mother is feeling chilly.” ~ Ambrose Bierce, The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary

“There's nothing more contagious than the laughter of young children; it doesn't even have to matter what they're laughing about.”
~ Criss Jami, Killosophy

“When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.” ~ Margery Williams Bianco, The Velveteen Rabbit

“Life is a process during which one initially gets less and less dependent, independent, and then more and more dependent.” ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
When I was a child, I worried a lot! As a parent, I worried more. Time now to play! So if you see me hooting and skipping, pay no mind, I'm just making up for lost playtime. ~ Jacquie
