Join Bank of RI to Help Support our Food Bank

High food and housing costs continue to drive new levels of hunger in the Ocean State. Right now, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank is serving a record number of people through its member agency food pantries – more than 80,000 per month.

Throughout Bank RI’s summer food drive, each branch features collection bins in their lobbies to accept donations of nonperishable food items. Among the foods needed most by pantries are canned soups and stews, pasta, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned fish and meat, rice (Jasmine, yellow, basmati, white and brown), canned tomato products, nut and seed butters, canned fruits and vegetables, and breakfast cereal. The Food Bank also needs culturally relevant foods like masa corn flour, dried black, kidney, and fava beans, sofrito, fish sauce, and coconut milk. Donations of sauces and spices must be in plastic bottles or cans; glass cannot be accepted.

A total of 14 food pantries have partnered with BankRI and will benefit from the multi-week food collection, receiving donations made directly in their local community. All the pantries are members of the Food Bank’s network of member agencies. The Wakefield Office supports Jonnycake Center of Hope.

We hope you'll join us in supporting our neighbors by donating to one the Wakefield Office!

Seasonal Menu Highlights: A Culinary Delight at Coast Guard House

Chef Angel and his team at The Coast Guard House Restaurant have crafted an exceptional selection of seasonal menu items. Indulge in filet mignon accompanied by house-made pommes Anna, or savor a traditional pupusa. For a fusion twist, try our Korean pig wings served on a bed of kimchi, or delight in lollipop lamb chops on a Mediterranean-inspired salad.

Seafood enthusiasts will enjoy both classic and innovative dishes. Choose from the traditional stuffed sole or explore new flavors with halibut paired with pea purée and tomato beurre blanc. Our scallops, always a favorite, are now served with house-smoked pork belly and sweet corn.

And don't miss out on dessert! Pastry Chef Jamie has introduced a delightful almond cake, joining our selection of gluten-free options.

Updates from Ocean State Waves

The 2024 summer baseball season at Old Mountain Field has concluded, and the Ocean State Waves had an exciting run. The team was in contention until the very last day, but unfortunately, weather canceled crucial games in Vermont, leaving us just one game short of a playoff spot.

As we look ahead to the 2025 season, we’re actively working on building our roster and preparing for next summer. Be sure to stay tuned for announcements about upcoming fall and winter events!

We are also seeking host families for next season. If you’re interested in opening your home to a college player, please contact Jen Petrucelli or Eric Hirschbein-Bodnar at OceanStateWaves@gmail.com or OSWHostfamilies@gmail.com. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support our players and enhance your baseball experience.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Waves are always in need of sponsorships and donations to cover expenses such as gear, travel, field upgrades, and more. If you’d like to support the team, please reach out to Eric Hirschbein-Bodnar at OceanStateWaves@gmail.com.

For any questions or further information, contact Eric Hirschbein-Bodnar at eric@oceanstatewaves.com or Perry Bodnar at PJBOceanStateWaves@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you at Old Mountain Field in 2025. “Roll Waves!”
