MTPS E-Sports Camp Takes Gaming to New Level |

Earlier this week students and staff launched the inaugural MTPS Esports Summer program, the opening of a trailblazing educational session that aims to inspire participants to explore a multitude of paths within the rapidly expanding competitive gaming industry.
The camp not only introduces students to popular games and platforms, but serves as an entry point to future curricular offerings, including journalism, graphic design, marketing and branding, game design, video editing and production, and so much more.

Heroes Cafe Makes Its Way to ESY Program
in Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Founded by the students of Bayview Elementary School in January, the Heroes Cafe is a student-operated snack and drink delivery program, as well as fundraising entity for its inspiration, The No Limits Cafe on Route 35 in Middletown.
Since its inception that Heroes Cafe has donated more than $1000 to the No Limits Cafe, and the support has continued this summer during the district's Extended School Year Programs at New Monmouth Elementary and Thorne Middle Schools.
The Heroes cafe requests and fills orders from educational staff members at no charge, and during the school year specialized in the distribution of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and more.
For the ESY program, an additional beverage option has been added in support of Alex's Lemonade Stand, a non-profit organization battling childhood cancer, one cup at a time.
Heroes Cafe operators have filled their summer orders by attaching packets of lemonade mix to bottles of water with a label promoting the work of Alex's Lemonade Stand. Donations made to the Heroes Cafe this summer will support the organization's fight.

MTPS Summer Instrumental Music Program Is Underway |

District instrumental students were back on campus this week honing their craft for the upcoming school year at the MTPS Summer Instrumental Music Program. Students worked with educators on individual pieces and in small groups to develop their skillsets before rejoining their bandmates in September. Keep up the great work!

Registration is now open to local high school students for various summer educational programs at Brookdale Community College, including an SAT Prep Bootcamp and an Introduction to Auto Tech. Follow the links for more information and to register.

Summer SOAR Program Underway with Tasty Mathematics Lessons |
|
The MTPS Summer SOAR Program offers additional academic opportunities in mathematics and literacy for students in grades K-8. Instruction is delivered in two-week blocks over a six-week period. Students and staff worked hard in the opening week to further develop their skills and readiness for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year.
One lesson was particularly tasty, as Mr. Font transformed his classroom into a bakery, working with his junior student-chefs to fill cupcake orders by making mathematical arrays out of their dough. Keep up the wonderful work!

Bayshore Band Has First Performance in Over a Year |
|
To wrap up the 2020-21 school year, instrumentalists from Bayshore Middle School put their talents on display this week during an outdoor concert that featured the concert band and the Bayshore Blue Notes Jazz Band.
The staff and community worked together to prepare for the outdoor performance which had a rainy and thunderstorm forecast. The bands played very well and the same team worked together to bring all the gear back in the building in time to beat the inclement weather.
Ironically, some of the songs performed included Here’s that Rainy Day, It’s Raining Tacos and Thunder and Fury! It is great to have live music again in our Middletown schools.

High School South Secures State Baseball Championship |
|
Ben Schild was masterful on the mound, as the sophomore tossed a complete game shutout in High School South's 6-0 victory over Montclair in the Group IV state finals. The championship victory was the Eagles first overall state title since 1996.
Schild surrendered just two hits and struck out seven to hold the Montclair bats at bay. Will Christopher went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Patrick Eagone and Evan Wood each drove in two.
The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 22-9.
Congratulations to the Eagles players, coaches and families on this incredible achievement!

MTPS Offers Groundbreaking Esports Summer Camp |
|
The MTPS ESports Summer Camp is a featured program offered by the district as part of an array of free summer learning opportunities for our students.
One of the fastest growing industries in the world, Esports is now a program offered by many colleges and universities across the country. Most schools of higher learning in New Jersey have already constructed Esports arenas on campus, and each of the district's secondary schools have fielded competitive Esports teams.
"Middletown Township Public Schools are proud that our five secondary Esports teams have competed against dozens of schools around the world this past year," said Director of Social Studies and Technology, Wendy Morales, who noted that the Thorne Middle School team reached the state finals.
Students participating in the MTPS Esports Summer Camp will learn how to:
- Strategize with their teammates to successfully compete against other teams playing games such as Rocket League and Minecraft
- "Shoutcast" (Esports announcing)
- Write as Esports journalists
- Create highlight reels (video editing)
- Create promotional materials (digital media design)
Students will also learn important "soft skills," such as how to effectively communicate, collaborate and problem solve with peers, as well as how to be responsible digital citizens.

Schnoor a Double Winner at Group Championship Meet |
|
High School North standout Rett Schnoor won a pair of gold medals at the NJSIAA Group III Championship Meet, finishing first in both the 100-meter dash event and the long jump.
Schnoor, a senior who continue her academic and athletic careers in the fall at Monmouth University, registered a time of 12.59 in the 100-meter to edge second place finisher Victoria Henry of West Windsor-Plainsboro North (12.64).
In the long jump event, Schnoor recorded a personal best mark of 18-01.50, out-leaping Raisa Thunig of Toms River East, who notched a 17-10.50.
Schnoor will move on to compete this weekend at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions.
