Instruction for
U7 & U9 Players

Many parents start coaching hockey when their first child begins to play. After attending an early season weekend coaching certification course, they begin their journey. For many rookie coaches they will follow their son or daughter through the minor hockey system from U7, to U9, to U11 etc.

Coach Rex started teaching the 6 to 7 year-old age group back in 1997 during his early power skating days in the Czech Republic. Based on his experiences, he shares a few pointers on what he has learned and incorporated into his teaching over the past 25+ years on the ice.

Award Recipient:

Mega Patel
Mega Patel was born in London, England. He moved to Canada when he was 4 years old. Because "it's the law here" he started skating & playing hockey when he was 6 years old!

Mega started attending Tucker Hockey camps when he was 10 years old. Coach Rex comments that Mega is very coachable and we always enjoy having him out on the ice!

Monumental Donation of $100,000 from the Shaw Family Foundation!
Kids need sport and physical activity now more than ever! The Back to Sport Project will help KidSport Calgary further support qualified kids in the community.

Since August 1:

  • 501 kids have received financial assistance from KidSport Calgary equaling $114,129 that has been invested back into the minor sport community to help kids play

  • 346 kids have received no cost equipment through the Calgary Flames Sports Bank, to get them geared up and ready to get back to the sport they love.
