A glimpse of the 9/11 Trail signage at the Flight 93 National Memorial. Coming soon to 900+ miles of trail route in PA!

A Shared Effort Across the Commonwealth

The Alliance is thrilled to share exciting progress in Pennsylvania. Last month, Governor Josh Shapiro and his Administration announced a new statewide initiative to officially mark and advance the 9/11 National Memorial Trail's route across the Commonwealth in preparation for the 25th anniversary of September 11 next year.

Working in partnership with the Alliance, PennDOT, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), the initiative will install nearly 750 new signs along more than 900 miles of trail, connecting 25 counties and 129 municipalities across Pennsylvania. These markers will make it easier than ever for residents and visitors alike to remember, discover, and connect along the 9/11 National Memorial Trail. Each new sign will represent not only part of the Trail route, but also the nation's promise to Never Forget—honoring heroes with every mile.

Alliance Advances Feasibility Study for Future Connection

The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance continues to make progress in expanding the Trail's reach across Pennsylvania. In collaboration with State Senator David Argall's office and the consulting firm WSP, the Alliance is nearing completion of a feasibility study to explore a future connection between Pottsville and Jim Thorpe, which began earlier this year.

The public phase of this study concluded last week, following a series of well-attended meetings that brought together community members, local officials, and regional stakeholders. With public engagement now complete, WSP will prepare the final plan throughout the remainder of the year. The study's findings will lay the groundwork and provide a roadmap for the Alliance and its partners to move toward implementation. The process will take time and significant effort, but will deliver lasting impact, connecting Schuylkill and Carbon counties with the 9/11 Trail.
