Hello June!
The 2021-22 school year has come to a close. Graduations have taken place. Classrooms are quiet. And summer is in full effect.
Congratulations to the graduating members of the Class of 2022 from CHS, GHS, GECA and MMHS, on your accomplishments and achievements. This is your time to shine brightly now. We can't wait to see all of the good you will do in this world as you begin the next steps of your journey via college, career, military, or just taking time to make the best decision you can for your future endeavors. It is my great hope that the classes you've taken, the people you've encountered, and the experiences you've had during your time as a student in our district will serve you well. I have no doubt in my mind that the person of character that you are is a result of what you have learned on our campuses.
I am sending you my best wishes for a journey filled with adventures, lessons learned and success along the way.
My best,
Debbie Flores
Superintendent

Safety on GUSD campuses
Following the school shootings in Uvalde, TX, Superintendent Flores shared various safety measures in place on our campuses with the GUSD community. This initiative began in 2012, following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting when Superintendent Flores met with the Gilroy Chief of Police, school principals, Cabinet members and top GPD officers to begin what is now an almost 10-year long partnership focused on school safety and the prevention of school shootings. Since then, key district personnel and officers from the GPD have worked closely together to ensure that we are doing everything we can to prepare for a school shooting and are constantly evaluating next steps.

2021-22 GUSD Year in Review
Celebrating the successes of our school communities and district makes us proud. During the 2021-22 school year, our students returned to in-person learning in all grades. Over 800 high school graduates from our high school programs are off to college, military and career. The new Brownell Middle School campus opened in August, and the South Valley Middle School project is well underway. GUSD was named a 2022 Pivotal Practices District by the California Department of Education and our staff served 10,500+ families throughout the Gilroy community.
