NEW ORLEANS (May 13, 2025) ‒ I met with our former Mayor Marc Morial, now President and CEO of the National Urban League, over the weekend and discussed how we can keep pushing forward for a stronger, more equitable city.
I’m so grateful for his insights and leadership, as well as mentorship, since he has served both in the State Legislature and in city government.
I shared with him my hopes to increase the Homestead Exemption from $75,000 to $125,000; my role as the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus; and my announcement to run this Fall for the Council at Large seat being vacated by Helena Moreno.
There is so much change happening all the time in our daily lives it is refreshing to get his ‘big picture’ view of where New Orleans fits into national and international arenas. But even more importantly, it is critical to get New Orleans government working again for the people who are invested in this city with their jobs, families and property.
Remember the old Morial slogan, “Keep the Drive Alive”? He reminded me how much energy goes into making sure this is a safe, clean, growing city. Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and get to work, moving our city forward.
